The Resident – Mid-Season 2 Review – Winter Hiatus

It has started. The time I dread more. HIATUSES.

I hate them. I spend months without any new episodes, I’m left with a cliffhanger and I hate waiting.

At the beginning of the Premiere Season, I talked about the first episode of this season and about the fact that I wasn’t sure I was going to keep watching.

I’m tired of medical shows.

Grey’s Anatomy took a toll on me and now I don’t trust anybody. I’m still mostly watching out of loyalty towards Emily Van Camp. And even if I hate to admit it, Logan Huntzberger Matt Czuchry is growing on me. I have nothing against the guy, believe me. I just HATED Gilmore Girl’s Logan with all my heart. And I still do.

Enough rambling, let’s get into the recap!

I liked it. Was it the best thing I’ve seen on TV this year? No. But it was enjoyable. What I enjoyed about last year’s 14 episode run, was the season-long mystery. Where they going to find out about Dr. Hunter? Was Lily going to survive? Would Dr. Bell improprieties ever be discovered?

This season, however, this mystery has taken a step back and the show is focusing more on standalone episodes with some small interference of the previous storyline.

We have actress Jenna Dewan who has joined the cast as a… I don’t get what her title is, but apparently she is a representative of a company which provides medical appliances and innovative tools to the hospital. Anyway, she brings trouble for Dr. Pravesh, who cheats on his fiancé with her.

Nic and Logan Condrad… whose name is super ironic because on Emily Van Camp’s last show “Revenge“, her father-in-law was names Conrad and he was EVIL!

Let’s not diverse any further, Nic and Conrad are going strong, at least it seems like, we get a flashback of the beginning of their relationship and what it was that drove them apart (spoiler alert: a miscarriage) and we get to see more insights into their relationship.

Mina has embarked on a relationship with one of the patient and SURPRISE SURPRISE… Dr. Austin likes her.

It was pretty obvious, people.

Dr Bell is still a dick who now runs the hospital and is pushing his own personal agenda.

Now unto the Winter Finale… Dr. Pravesh’s fiancé accepted a year-long job in San Francisco and Jenna Dewan’s character Julian Lynch just quit her job following the discovery that her company is not that transparent. They claim all their products are manifactured in the US, and guess what? They’re not. They’re made in China and they switch the labels.

And Julian blows the whistle!

And she gets caught. Because she used the company phone to call the FDA.

But wait! Conrad’s dad gets sick! He has to be admitted into the hospital and then has to undergo surgery. Conrad has daddy issues and does not want to be the medical proxy of a father he barely knows.

And he tells Conrad his mother fell in love with their neighbour and their separated.

But they talk it out and have a genuine moment together, in which they show love for each other. It was nice.

And there are issues with Dr. Bell and Dr. Hunter’s bail and more stuff like that. I don’t care. I just want to see him pay for his crimes.

THEN, Devin’s mother tells him about her own affair. She had an arranged marriage to his father and she struggled with it. So she tells him to follow his heart. Is that realistic?

Then he breaks up with her, like half an hour before the wedding.

“I can’t marry you. Not when I have feelings with somebody else. You deserve someone that deserves you and only you.”

“I have real feelings for this person.”

But my girl Priya is not here for this idiot’s “little speech”. You go girl. I support you. To be fair, Devin was honest. It would have been a million times sadder had he gone through with the wedding. He would have mistreated her, and humiliated her even more.

Don’t go away, the surprised are not over yet. Conrad’s dad is rushed to emergency surgery and who gets called to perform it? None other than Dr. Bell. GREAT.

Oh, Julian gets into a car crash.

And this is how the episode ends!!!

I hate to say it because it’s exactly what they want but… DAMN, after this cliffhanger I’m definitely going to keep watching.

Overall, it’s been a good first half of the season. So much tension, drama, conflict, mystery…

What do you think about it? What do you think of Devin’s “revelation”? And what about Nic and Conrad’s relationship? Will Doctor Bell be outed?

Riverdale – s03 e06 – Chapter Forty-One: Manhunter – REVIEW

You guys… So much happened. I have so many opinions, so many comments and SO MANY RIDICULOUS SCENES THAT MADE ME LAUGH SO MUCH!

I am still worried about Jughead. Please, don’t harm him anymore. He has had it tough, people. His mom left wth his baby sister, his dad went to prison, he was homeless, he joined a dangerous gang and was almost beaten to death by a crazy lady.

I’ve been reviewing all the season 3 episodes and I’ve wrote a couple most posts about my thoughts, opinions and comments!

Riverdale’s Weird Characterization, Cringeworthy Moments, Season 3 – Trailer Breakdown,  Why Archie Andrews is an Idiot: A Rant-y and Not At All Bias Opinion Piece, Bughead Fanfiction Recommendations, Scenes That Had Me in Stitches, Aspects That Made Me Super Mad,
Top 5 pisodes – Romance, Trash and Ridiculousness.

Let’s get into the episode shall we?

Let me just say… Betty was a badass in this episode. Strutting in her house in total black and her serpent jacket on. She looked SO COOL! I stand one (1) Serpent Queen.

Again with the sex bunker. Seriously guys. Stop. There is one think I am actually worried about:

They changed the sheets, right? RIGHT!? RIGHT?!?!

Then the Cherriff start threatening the students and JOSIE HAS A SEISURE!!!!

But the perfect line was delivered by Evelyn Evernever:

I don’t even know this Archie person.

Evelyn Evernever

But guess what Bughead Investigations finds out? The Warden was the RROTC instructor of Riverdale High, the same year their parents started “The Midnight Club“.

Betty traps the parents in Veronica’s Speak Easy to confront them. Fred Andrews is obviously the only sane person that want to cooperate with Betty. He is the only intelligent person on this show!!!

The parents start accusing each other, Dilton Doiley’s deceased father gets blamed by Penelope Blossom and lie after lie is told, Betty tells FP Jug is playing G&G.

It is perfectly clear they are lying. There are things they haven’t revealed to us yet.

I’m loving this Kevin / Archie storyline! I liked that the writers paired them off and let them have a sort of adventure together.

Now let’s talk about Jughead being handcuffed to the fridge. On Tumblr there has been an outpouring of kinky comments and I loved it. The scene itself was sweet. You could see the love between Betty and Jughead and the respect they have for each other.

They don’t have to spend all their time together, no matter how much we, the Bughead fandom, would like that. I liked that they showed independence and the amount of TRUST there is between the two of them.

They have learned by the mistakes they made in early season 2, when they briefly broke up because he didn’t want her to have anything to do with the Serpents and that life.

I’m still pissed off about that. I will NEVER get over it.

So Kevin brings Archie to the morgue to have him stiched up because his wound had gotten infected and, against Veronica’s orders, they go ater the Cheriff, who is scouting the woods for “The Shadow Lake Boys”.

The next scene drove me insane. Somehow, all of a sudden Veronica finds 10 minutes of missing footage from Minetta’s interrogation tapes.

She gets thrown into jail and yadi yadi. More importantly, Sweet Pea and Fang find Joaquin and we find out that the symbol Warden Norton burnt on Archie is the G&G code for SACRIFICE.

Another scene that had me in stitches: Jughead confronting Hiram and accusing him of being the Gargoyle King without a single shred of evidence.

And who was Sheriff when all of that happened?! Tom Keller obviously! But he and Fred then run off to the woods! GREAT.

But one of them is alive! And Archie and Kevin take him to the hospital. There wasn’t any doubt the guy wasn’t going to survive. OF COURSE HE WASN’T! IT WAS FUCKING OBVIOUS!

And more people are going to perish! Case in point  JOAQUIN!!! As I wrote on my Tumblr:

I was also surprised by Jughead’s reaction. Finally! A somewhat normal expression of shock!

Archies is feeling guilty, Veronica saves him and Penelope Blossom asks Betty to call her Auntie and it’s super weird. Betty starts drilling Alice for answers about Doiley’s covered up murder and SHIT GETS SCARY!

But don’t fret! FP to the rescue! And by that I mean doing nothing and hugging Alice for not reason at all.

Almost forgot! Archie and Veronica break up! And Archie and Jughead are off to Toledo to visit Jug’s mom.

I liked KJ’s acting in this scene. He was really good. Still, I was surprised because I didn’t feel anything. Not even a little bit of sadness. I was totally unscathed by this moving scene. I felt nothing. Maybe because of my hatred for Archie, but I should at least feel sorry for Veronica!

She went against her family, worked her ass off for him, bought a diner, built a business and got him out of the conviction he plead guilty to!

Betty is at the Sisters and guess what?!

ALL THE OTHER… shall we call them patients or inmates?… ARE DRAWING PICTURE OF THE GARGOYLE KING!!!

Even the Sisters are not immute to the game! And Betty is most definitely NOT safe!

This was a stressful episode, it took me so long to review! And almost 1,000 words later, it’s done.

Hope you like it. I’m worried about Betty now. I hope that since Jug is leaving Riverdale, he will detox and he won’t be so obsessed with G&G. Please don’t hurt him.

If you want to stab Archie again… be my guest!

Just… don’t hurt Jughead. He’s going to see his mom, who, by the way, ABANDONED HIM AND TOOK AWAY HIS SISTER! But this is for the next episode!

WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE GARGOYLE KING? Do you have any suspects? Do you think there are clues scattered all around the episodes? or the writers are just fucking clueless and don’t pay that much attention to details?

Daredevil Season 3 Review

Daredevil season 3 came out more than a month ago and I have just gotten around to publish this review. I have been busy, readers. I wrote a blog post every single day from September 20th to October 11th and I needed a break.

Charlie Cox in Daredevil (2015)I thought I was going to watch these 13 episodes in a couple of days but I actually took me a little bit longer.

I binged season 1 in a couple of days, staying up until 3 in the morning. I watched season 2 out of love for the first one and I was not a fan. Electra got on my nerves immediately and Stick was just boring. I even saw “The Defenders“! This season was good. I liked it.

Charlie Cox is extremely attractive and I kept going mostly because of him. And Karen. I loved that she kept searching for the truth, despite all odds and people plotting against her.

This season started off with Matt abandoning both his Daredevil and his own identity personas. And it took most of the season for him to go back to kicking ass.

His own existential crisis was a bit boring.

All this talk about God reminded me of “Suits” and Mike’s christian guilt. I was not interested in re-living all of that again.

Charlie Cox and Wilson Bethel in Daredevil (2015)

Daredevil has been going through some difficult times: they have had four different show runner in the span of 3 seasons! That is unbelievable. I am surprised the show has not crumbled down yet.

While Matt hiding with nuns and priests, Foggy and Karen believe him to be dead and yet, they do not lose hope. They pay his bills and keep his apartment in order. They are both pursuing their career, Foggy as a lawyer and for a brief moment, political candidate and Karen as an investigative journalist.

Vincent D'Onofrio in Daredevil (2015)

Winston Fisk is back and had he said: “VANESSA!” one more time, I would have slapped him across the face.

What is the deal with protagonists talking to ghosts? First in “13 Reasons Why”, in Riverdale’s latest episode and now here. Why do they think it is a good idea?

Get it through your head… it’s not.

I really enjoyed episode 10, the one entirely dedicated to Karen and her back story. It was nice to see where she came from and the events that brought her to Hell’s Kitchen.

Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll in Daredevil (2015)

The revelation that Sister Maggie is Matt’s mother left me shocked for a millisecond and then it felt obvious. I should have seen it coming.

Matt spends basically the entire season rejecting his friends and rejecting any help. He dwells on his misery and plays the tortured superhero with a God complex.

That’s something we’ve seen a billion times before. It’s nothing new.

He then realises he cannot do it alone and goes back to relying on the people who love him.

Wow. What a big and unforeseeable plot twist.

And this thing bothered me in quite a few episodes:

How is it possible that Matt materializes to places? One minute he was at Fisk’s house, two seconds later BOOM! he was at the church.

And then he was on the roof with Karen and Foggy and in the next scene he was at Nadeem’s house. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! COME ON!

Elden Henson and Jay Ali in Daredevil (2015)

I enjoyed Agent Nadeem’s story line. I was not stupid or boring and for some reason, I did not expect him to die at the end.

Given that Netflix has cancelled both Luke Cage (thank you TV Gods) and Iron Fist (Bless you, Gods of Television), I am not sure whether or not we will get a season 4.

Overall, I liked it. A lot more than season 2. I felt like it took too much time for the trio to get back together and the first couple of episodes were too slow. To me it felt like they were stringing us along for no reason at all.

That being said, Fisk was as scary and as manipulative as usual and I was glad they brought him back. He is a strong villain, the classic bad guy. Every superhero show needs someone like Fist, or like Jessica Jones’ Killgrave. (BRING BACK DAVID TENNANT PLEASE)

I don’t care about abstract entities or secret societies. I want an evil cruel bad guy with despicable intentions. That’s what’s fun to me.

Have you seen season 3? Did you like it? Did it surprise you?

I’m always up for swapping theories and impressions!

Westworld Season 2 – Review

Spoiler alert: this review is going to be really short.

I watched it.

I did it.

It took me 4 months.

I did not understand what the fuck was happening.

Visually, it is beautiful. The landscapes, lens glares and colours are magnificent. It’s worth watching 10 hours of this season just to see the cinematography. It’s absolutely magnificent.

The acting is mesmerising. There were parts I couldn’t take my eyes off of the screeen, even though I did not get what was going on.

This is what I think I have internalised:

  • Dolores is now evil
  • Maeve can control other hosts
  • The humans/creators are collecting the data of all the guests (Facebook and Cambridge Analytica style).
  • Bernard is… a host? But not all the time? I don’t know I’m still confused
  • There are more than two timelines (?)
  • There are more universes than the Wild West one.
  • There is a sort of heaven.
  • Half the cast is dead.

Kudos to the actors, directors and the entire production team for creating a great show I do not understand in the slightest.

That’s my ony complaint. The show itself. It is really really hard to follow. Not even reading professional reviewers from The New York Times helped me.

I do not think I’ll be watching season 3 (probably airing in 2020). I can’t do this.

Feel free to write a comment or tweet at me or even send me an email!

p.s. I wrote this in August. Then got sidetracked by the Fall Premiere season…
