Mozart in the Jungle got Cancelled

I have literally just found out that Amazon decided to end “Mozart in the jungle“.

This is a disgrace.

I’ve been following the show since season two and it’s brilliant.

I have talked about the show on my blog (1st impression and season 4) and I was really hoping and waiting for a new season!

It’s one of those completely weird shows. It’s about a New York orchestra that has to survive the increasingly difficult times in the classical music industry.

It’s about people who are passionate about music and about playing and performing. It’s about artists.

The show takes risks with the plot, weight of the absurdity of Roderigo, with the directing and the writing.

Sure, Season 3 was a little bit weird, uneventful and had some questionable recurring characters with bad acting (Yes, I’m talking about Monica Bellucci) but I think the newest season was absolutely brilliant.

It explored Hayley and Rodrigo’s relationship, the difficulties they had to go through and the challenges for women conductors (and not only) in this field.

It’s horrible that they have completely disregarded the show as unimportant and therefore decided to cancel it.

It was completely different from the others: it wasn’t a procedural, it wasn’t a medical drama, it wasn’t about super heroes in spandex…

It was about music, passion and the performing arts. I don’t understand what Amazon studios is doing with his platform. Given how things are at the moment, I don’t think I will renew my Amazon Prime subscription in January 2019.

I am so disappointed and so angry about this. The show finally got back on track and what do they do? They decided to cancel it.

Nonetheless, even though there won’t be a fifth season, I urge every single one of you reading this to go and watch it. It is a beautiful story about crazy people that are passionate about music.

And with that, it’s over. Both my post and the show.

You will find me on Twitter angrily tweeting at Amazon studios.

“Concentrate on the music. Ignore the noise.”, Mozart In The Jungle – Season 4 Review

Hai Lai and Rodrigo are back!!!

I’ve been following “Mozart in the Jungle” for quite a while and I’ve been waiting more than a year for this next season.

Starring Lola Kirke, Gael Garcia Bernal and created by Alex Timbers, Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman, the show revolves around a New York based Orchestra and the issues they face to keep the boat afloat and keep performing. mv5bmjizntyyotkyov5bml5banbnxkftztgwnzk5nzyzndm-_v1_sy1000_cr006751000_al_

I’ve already written a review about the show before the premiere of season 3 and I HAD to talk about this one.

It’s quite different from its previous series. At the end of season 3, we left Hailey with her vision of Marianne, Mozart’s older sister after having slept with Rodrigo.

Following the whole “The Fiamma” fiasco with the horrendous acting of Monica Bellucci, this was a breath of fresh air.

Although it focuses mostly on Rodrigo and Hailey’s new-found romantic relationship and the struggles and issues they will eventually face. The Maestro calling himself “The Boyfriend” a thousand times without fully understanding the meaning behind it was hilarious.

He is even crazier this season. Absolutely mental. He makes no sense, has literally no normal connections with other people other than Hailey and on top of that, he has lost his muse: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart himself.

I adored how much Rodrigo and Hailey physically connected with each other, somehow finding occasions to touch the other one. Usually in TV relationship, it’s not something that is shown and the actors are in contact with each other only whenever it’s explicitly required. I thought this was a quirk that made the show so much more realistic.

The trope “I feel inferior because my boyfriend is more successful, famous and better than me” was unnecessary: it diminished their relationship and their connection. It was a “girl-power” move that I fully support but at the same time I didn’t like the way it was executed. Mixing professional and personal life is never a good idea and this trope bummed me out. Everybody knows that. Come on.

I loved Cynthia’s commitment to the youth Orchestra, Thomas’ path to reinvent classical music performances and to implement new ideas, the Orchestra’s love and support for Hailey.

Speaking of Hailey, her quest to make it in a field mostly dominated by men, performing male composers pieces was inspiring. Her determination to make it in that difficult field while empowering other musicians and composers was perfect for these times of revolution. (Despite being written and shot before the rise of the “#metoo” and “Time’sUp” movements in recent months.)

There is always a conceptual and visually artistic episode and this one involved a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and LSD type hallucinations of both Rodrigo and Hailey.

Concluding, if you have Amazon Prime Video, do yourself a favour and watch it. You won’t regret it.

P.S. And how could I forget Liberace!!!! Instead of Mozart, Maestro Rodrigo started seeing Liberace! Costume, glitters, sequins and all! I love it!!!!

Pretty Little Liars Review! Season 7 episode 9: The Wrath Of Khan

So……. This week’s episode was pretty eventful. Compared to episode 9 “Exes and OMGs”, in every scene of “The Wrath of Khan” a lot happened.

From Hannah’s fail/successful evil plan to Aria’s flashbacks, I didn’t even blink ’cause I was afraid I would miss clues. I took a full-page of notes! I’ll try to break down the ep character by character.

Starting with whose who didn’t appear in “The Wrath of Khan”: Erza who is in Colombia and Alison who is apparently on a field trip with her students… I’m not even commenting on this. Seriously.

2016-08-24 (1)I’m going to dive right into the Aria situation… She and Jason are trying to discover more information about Mary Drake’s baby because *of course* Aria told him everything!!! Why does she even trust him?! But after the first flashback, their weird tension was explained: they had slept together! Back when Aria had just graduated. SAY WHAAT? Wasn’t a big surprise actually… Can we just talk about his ponytail? At least do a man bun! So much better!!!

Anyway, he asked her to follow him to Ethiopia and in the second flashback, Aria tells him that she had accepted a position as an editorial assistant which *surprise surprise* is the same company that published Ezra’s book…. *wink wink*.

Jason was actually sweet, reassuring Aria that Ezra actually loves her. Long story short, she was afraid that if Nicola were alive, Ezra will choose her. AND she is convinced that he still loves her. Which is plausible. Sorry Aria.

Now let’s talk about Spencer. Detective Marco Furey appears on her door to inform her that Archer has flown to France… but this was just a stupid excuse to reveal to the audience Archer’s whereabouts and at the same time to build up some sexual tension between them. Long story short, he asks her out and she says no.

I’m not lying… I laughed.

Also the fact that they had to insert Noel Khan’s address through a red velvet cake order was ridiculous.

With that information, Spencer and Emily go to the famous cabin where he held all his parties in the high school years and find a flash drive with videos from the Doll House, implicating Noel in the matter.

PLL s07e09

But there is a thunderstorm and someone breaks into Spencer’s house and STEALS IT! Having called Detective Furey, he turns up and… some more Spencer/Marco tension!

Another character that is dealing with some relationship problems is Emily! Even though she is with Sabrina, the fact that Paige is back brings up old feelings and the connection that they had a long time ago.

PLL s07e09

While talking about how much they miss high school, Emily says something along the lines of “do you also miss having acne that won’t go away?” ACNE?!?! WHEN DID SHE EVEN HAVE ACNE?? SERIOUSLY?!? THIS IS BULLSHIT.

Ok, I need to calm down… What was I talking about? Oh yeah how much I don’t care about Emily’s relationship with Sabrina the waitress. I really don’t. I liked Emily and Paige together though. I hope they get back together. Screw you, Sabrina.

Moving on from Emily, in the last episode Hannah went rogue and tricked the liars into believing she was in New York with Lucas when instead she was hiding and plotting a plan to take down Noel Khan.

PLL s07e09

Also, yes, a hat is definitely making you unrecognizable. *rolls eyes*

She records a video, some sort of confession that possibly explains everything (she has no concrete evidence, but nevermind) that has been going on ever since after Charlotte’s murder.

But after trying (and failing) to knock down Noel with some sleeping pills, in the final seconds of the episode, she succeeds and hits him on the head.

PLL s07e09

In the last two minutes, we learn a lot.

– Noel Khan’s father was the judge that signed the adoption papers of Mary Drake’s second secret child. This leads Aria to believe that HE is the baby!

– After a weird moments when Jason kinda of hits on Aria, Ezra writes her saying that he is coming back and that they didn’t find her. Since this is Pretty Little Liars, the Nicole storyline is not over. I’m super convinced she will be back.

So, these are my thoughts on the episode. Let me know if you have seen it and if you liked it!

You’re the worst

Here I am with my first ever review. 😉

You have probably already guessed it from the title but the show is called “You’re the worst” and it is a FX 30-minute-long comedy, drama and romance series that talks about Gretchen and Jimmy who are both literally the worst. The show follows them as they meet, “fall in love” (both Gretchen and Jimmy would say “ew” to this while making a disgusted face) and attempt to form a sort of relationship.

Gretchen and Jimmy

Gretchen is a PR for a loud, mean and unexpectedly colorful dressed rapper named Sam and she has given up on relationships (both romantic and non) with other people.

On the other end, Jimmy is a pretentious english-born writer, whose book received a single review on the times and he is struggling to cope with his ex-girlfriend wedding.

It’s at this very wedding where they meet for the first time: she had just stolen a food blender and is planning on moving to NYC and he had been thrown out from the ceremony after causing a scene: their connection is immediate.

If you are looking for a love story with romantic gestures and glistening eyes, this is not for you. Gretchen and Jimmy are unconventional, mean and disturbingly honest to each other. They are self-distructive people with issues. A LOT of issues.

FX rates it MA often integrated with L, D, S warnings. And yes, there is nudity and constant references to sexual practices.  Obviously, sex is a fundamental component in Jimmy and Gretchen’s relationship. It isn’t portrayed in a fairy tale kind of way: it’s something they are addicted to, something they can’t avoid.

They are free and liberal people, who still want to spend their late twenties partying and having fun.

Sex isn’t the only third wheel in their relationship: drugs and alcohol have a huge role in this show. The characters are always partying, drinking and doing stupid stuff. But sex, drugs and alcohol don’t involve only Gretchen and Jimmy. The show has two other amazing supporting roles: Lindsay and Edgar.

Both with problems of their own, these two amazing characters make the show complete. One with a husband she doesn’t love and the other with PTSD from his tour in Afghanistan, Lindsay and Edgar are the constant companions in Gretchen and Jimmy’s tormented relationship.

Another weird thing: Jimmy’s 10-years-old awkward neighbour Killian is often with them: playing with Jimmy on the Playstation or simply bartending at one of their parties. (I assure you, it may seem creepy but it is actually unbelievable funny).

The show underlines the different and utterly horrible behaviour of all the characters: from Jimmy’s ex girlfriend Becca, Lindsay’s husband Paul and the eccentric rapper Sam and his crew members Shitstain and Honey Nutz (I swear the name are right… I am not making them up)

Chris Geere (Jimmy), Aya Cash (Gretchen), Desmin Borges (Edgar) and Kether Donohue (Lindsay) bring to their characters a unique perspective, making them adorable and spiteful at the same time.

Personally I LOVE IT. It’s so honest and amazingly written and Jimmy’s sarcastic heckles towards people are hilarious.

They are not afraid to show how horrible every single one of them is. They are not ashamed of who they are, what they say or how they behave.

Deep down, even if we don’t want to admit it and parade it around, we are all as dysfunctional and mean as the character. The only difference, we push it down, we hide it, we don’t share it in fear of someone judging us.

What I’m trying to say is: embrace your weirdness.

Thanks for reading! Georgia
