Big Little Lies – First Impression

I’ve just finished watching HBO’s “Big Little Lies” as part of my ongoing series of “shows I need to see before the Emmys” and I loved it.

Starring Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Reese Witherspoon, it’s based on the namesake book written by Liane Moriarty.

Before watching the pilot, I knew very little about it. Just that involves a murder mystery, a small town and the lives of these three women.

Madeline Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon) has two children, a part time job at the theatre comunity, an ex-husband who remarried. Her current huband is Ed (played by the lovely Adam Scott who has a majestic beard you won’t forget). She is chatty, very involved in the comunity and on the first day of school, she befriends a young women called Jane.

Jane Chapman is single mom who recently moved to town. She is young and completely different from all the other moms. We know very little about her and her past.

Celeste Wright is Madeline’s best friend. She has two twin boys and a younger husband. The relationship with said husband seems perfect, her marriage rock solid. But there is more than meets the eyes.

By the end of the episode, you see all three women getting ready to go to bed and the atmosphere shifts: while before you felt the mystery and the secrets, now all I perceived was sadness. Utter emptiness in Madeline, Jane and Celeste’s eyes.

I really like the writing and directing: the story is told in medias res, they start by introducing the women and their lives and in between that, the aftermath of the murder: the police describing the extend of the victim’s injuries and the interrogarions of some member of the community. All of this, without revealing the identity of the person who was murdered.

The first show that comes to mind where they have used this technique is “The Affair” (Showtime). And I really really like it. This one is even more particular, that is because it’s not the main characters who are interviewed, but merely bystanders.

I am hooked and I cannot wait to continue it. I have heard that some things are different than the book and some have said that it is not as good. I don’t really care. I’m just looking for amazing television.

There isn’t much else too say… It’s gripping, entertaining and it makes you want to bing watch it all in one day.

As soon as I finished it, I will let you know my overall opinions. Even though I am pretty sure I will like it. A lot.

Hope you liked this quick post. At least for my standards. 🙂

Let me know your thoughts about it and if you’ve read the book or see the show!

I’m so excited for the Emmys!!!

Pretty Little Liars s07e16 – “The Glove That Rocks The Cradle” – REVIEW

ATTENTION! This review contains some strong language and (obviously) spoilers from the 16th episode of season 7 of Pretty Little Liars. You have been warned!

So, I decided to try a new way of reviewing this episode. Instead of typing, I am dictating to my phone. It’s pretty weird but I’m actually surprised by how quick and easy this is! And most of all, I’m having so much fun!!!

I have been pretty absent from my blog. And I’m really disappointed. I wanted to post more and to review these episodes as soon as they came out. The problem is: I’ve been so incredibly busy and too tired to create something cohesive that actually makes sense.
But I’m back and I’m so ready to talk about the last episode of “Pretty Little Liars”.

The episode begins with Spencer in the police station and she’s being interrogated by a police officer. You’re probably tired of reading me complain about him but Marco is just really annoying. At first, they have sex, then he arrests her. NOW HE HAS A MORALS!

2017-06-10 (8).png

Oh my god Aria and the stupid Aria on the phone. Please stop. Ezra and Aria talking about dancing lessons is adorable. But the entire conversation is so awkward. Ezra is suspecting something. Let’s not forget that Aria is still being a bitch and doing stuff behind her friend’s backs.

Oh wait, they are still going on about Lucas knowing Charles. And Caleb appeared again. Just to remind us that Spencer fell in love with Caleb. Ew.

2017-06-10 (9).png

Oh no now Ezra has to tell poor Aria about the book and I’m sure she is going to flip out. YES. DRAMAAAAAAAAAAA! And then there is no drama. Even on the last episode I was waiting for some drama between those two! Why are you torturing us. As we say in Italian: UFFAAAAAAAA!!

I’ve been slacking off, so when Hannah mentioned it I was like: “What does A.D. Stand for?” No, seriously. WHAT DOES IT STAND FOR?

Spencer is making one bad decision after another.
In fact, she steals a USB pen that contains a video of Lucas talking to the police.  And he’s throwing them all under the bus. And this delights me. I don’t really understand why Hannah is still protecting Lucas and why she still thinks that he is innocent. *massive eye roll*

Last episode it was great. I mean, there was so much information and so many things happening at once! I couldn’t keep up! But in this one nothing has happened it’s pretty boring. They only have four of five episodes left in the entire season and they are absolutely wasting them on stupid shit that nobody cares about. What’s the matter with Yvonne and Toby! I mean, nobody cares about that! Nobody!

Then some drama with Emily and Alison and the baby. I was really shocked about the revelation that the baby is actually Emily’s, but now I’m just bored. GO ON!!

What is up with that awkward conversation with Caleb and Spencer: “Hannah and I will not let you down this time”. Shut up and let me forget that the whole thing ever happened. Also, can we mention that horrendous jacket that he is wearing? Ew.

For once I feel bad for Mona. She is always left out of everything. She really just wants to be part of the group and nobody is letting her.

2017-06-10 (13).png

When I saw that both Emily and Alison were at school, the first thing that came to mind was that she was going to lose the baby. I wouldn’t have liked it AT ALL, but it would have been such a dramatical turn. And then they almost catch Aria breaking into the house destroying all of the baby’s stuff. This is completely ridiculous.

2017-06-10 (12).png

No but wait. Aria’s earring on the floor, in plain sight for Spencer to see, is ridiculous. I cannot believe that they actually did that. A couple of episodes ago I started using the word “useless” all the time. Now what perfectly describes this episode is: ridiculous.

Marco is upset because he realised that Spencer stole his USB drive. I hated to the two of them together and I think I hate them even more now that they are fighting. To quote my main man David Tennant:

https://68.media.tumblr.com/76694363e63cf27a92e3fcba1006ce8e/tumblr_mipiv66FkI1s3023qo1_400.gif

But now they’re confronting Lucas… for whatever reason. Oh now wait, of course there is a second book! Is this just about the stuff that Alison did when they were all in high school? BORING.

What is this shit about Emily “protecting” Alison and viceversa? I really liked Emily with Paige but now it seems like with the pregnancy and everything, they are pointing towards a romantic relationship between Emily and Ali. So now Allison is gay? Throughout the entire narrative course they never really talked about her sexuality (expect one kiss with Emily and some flirty scenes) and out all of a sudden she is in love with Emily? Well, apparently yes because she just said it and now they are smooching. I am not questioning her sexuality, of course! Just how quick everything has happened. It’s important that shows like this talk about sexuality and that being your true self is ok.

2017-06-10 (15).png

Aria is messing everything up, and frankly I am happy that she’s finally crying because if she hadn’t I would’ve thought that she was a robot: never showing any other emotion except fear and shock.

Anyway, these are my thoughts on the episode. I’m kind of excited to see what’s going to happen in the following episodes because so far I’ve been quite disappointed. I have the feeling that these 4 remaining episodes are going to be full of twists and turns and surprises. At least I hope so.

Let’s keep the leidmotif of trash going, please!

Pretty Little Liars – Season 7 Episode 13 – “Hold Your Piece” – REVIEW

ATTENTION! This review contains some strong language and (obviously) spoilers from the latest Pretty Little Liars episode. You have been warned!

[Present Me Writing:] I have posted the review for ep 12 a couple of minutes ago and as I was about to pick up my Uni book I decided to edit this review and post it. Otherwise in 2018 it will still be in the drafts secton. So…. Here is what I wrote a couple of weeks ago! Sorry again for the delay! I will explain in a future entry! Enjoy!

I’m back with episode 13! This one was a goody… I yelled at the TV more than once. I predicted almost everything that happened. I love this show so much!

The episode begins with the cell phone from A.D.’s board game waking up Spencer because it’s crying. Yes, the phone is crying like a baby.

Then the authors of the show tried to make us care about Toby’s fiancée. Don’t worry: nobody does.
The fiancée (whose name I don’t really remember but I think it’s Yvonne) still has a perfect manicure after a car crash. PERFECT, I tell ya. This drives me crazy every single fucking time. Oh, and she’s awake from the coma. Still: who cares!!!

2017-05-24.png

There’s also this think that bothers me: Spencer and the cop’s non-existent sexual tension is literally non-existent. NOTHING. WHY? Authors? WHY?

But my favourite part of the episode was the Hannah Doll. HILARIOUS! Hats off to the genius who thought about this insane thing. It’s so bad it’s amazing.

2017-05-10 (4).png

Caleb and Hannah are so smart that they bring it into the house?! 😂  COME ON!!! And the line: “Please see the appendix”: WHAT OTHER APPENDIX DID YOU THINK WE WERE TALKING ABOUT?! Hannah looked in the appendixes of the books she owned. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!! I guess it as soon as the doll said it!!! It’s fucking obvious!

And then the cop shows up again! JUST GO AWAY. That policeman (don’t remember his name ’cause I hate him) with the ping pong table. Really really boring!!!!!!!!!! I don’t care about his sad childhood!!!!!!!

2017-05-10 (2).png

[This is another fucking filler episode and I’m bored!]  Inner thoughts came through. I’m sorry. I was soooo bored.

Apparently, Toby’s fiancée wasn’t apparently his fiancée yet… Since he asked her to get married in this episode… I’m confused. Mostly because I’ve skipped the parts where they were involved. *wink wink*

Aria and Emily following the girl that looks like Jenna (SIDNEY! HER NAME IS SIDNEY!) is useless. (probably the most used adjective in these two episodes…)

But then Hannah cuts open the doll only to find a kimono that she has to wear to a meeting with Japanese investors. A.D. is pulling the racism card… I kind of feel bad for Hannah… 2017-05-10 (6).png

Then after some threats and other shit, there is a VERY awkward moment between Spencer and Caleb. Remember, they “dated” for a while. EW. Why they paired them together, I really don’t understand. Another favourite part was Caleb when got sprayed by the board game! WHY? JUST… WHY?

In the middle of nowhere, there is choir singing. What’s with the church music?! But of course, it’s for the happy nuptials! Toby actually got married to Yvonne!!!!

And I was so naive… I asked myself: “what if she dies?” followed a second later by: “she is soooooo going to die”. AND YES!!!  I predicted it!! She is dead!! I don’t mean to sound so happy, but it’s a character on a TV show, I hate her and… I KNEW IT! I WIN!

but after this joyous moment, I came to a realization and I askled myself: Is anyone else wondering where the fuck Ezra is?
Was the actor busy? Did they really think that this whole Nicole thing was plausible?!
Then Nicole is hiding in Ezra’s apartment?! WTF. WHY? WHY?

Before writing this, I thought this episode was me

2017-05-24 (1).png

Before writing this, I thought this episode was meaningless, but now I already have three favourite scenes. And the third one is the last one: the policed gets a severed finger in the mail… I LOVED THIS. LOVED LOVED LOVED. It was the most cliché thing ever and of course, they had to include it. AMAZING.

I hope the reviews aren’t too long for you. I have to comment on everything and this show is so ridiculous sometimes. I hadn’t read this review for some time and seeing it now made me realize about something I need to work on so I can get better… But you don’t really care about this. I’m just ranting. I’ll stop.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that I didn’t bore you to death. Let me know your thoughts on the episode. I write these posts so I can vent about stuff and I’d really love to engage in a conversation.

LOVE,

Georgia

Pretty Little Liars Summer Finale 2016 – Season 07 episode 10 – “The Darkest Knight” Review

ATTENTION! This review contains some strong language and (obviously) spoilers from the latest Pretty Little Liars episode. You have been warned!

I avoided Twitter for as long as I could. I hid the App in a “Utility” folder I never open and tried to forget about it.

Before I review this episode and make it the biggest thing ever, I need to make something clear. I love Pretty Little Liars because it is an “easy” tv show. Although there are powerful elements (that I will talk about in one of my future posts) to the show, it does not have the depth of series like Game of Thrones or True Detective.

It is a series that I personally watch to have fun and get into the lives of five teenager with complicated romances with perfect hair and makeup.

But this episode is something else. I have NEVER had this much fun while watching a PLL episode. I laughed out loud for ages. The following things that you will read were written whilst watching the episode, so it’s my genuine reaction to all the SHIT that happened.

PLL s07e10

Let’s begin right away with  brainstorming session with all the liars (minus Hannah) and Mona and Caleb which I think was shot so that they could introduce back Mona and call 911 to say they thought Hannah had been abducted.

PLL s07e10

Hannah is still keeping Noel Khan captive and she pull out a knife to torture him… A scene that I found a bit extreme and ridiculous… But comparing this with the shit that it is about to go down, is really nothing . One thing I have noticed, though: she is still fashionable and has ripped jeans on. Because STYLE is what’s important while torturing someone.

So she cut him and goes to DNA lab with Noel’s blood to prove that he is Mary Drake’s son. AND she calls Mona to help her! And she actually does help her! She finds the famous flash drive, but Hannah isn’t happy with that! She wants to frame Noel for everything that he did to her.

PLL s07e10

So she decides to come back! And since the show is called “Pretty Little Liars”, she lies to everyone. Both the police and her friends.

Caleb takes her home and then at one point there is the whole “I know you better than yourself” speech and he says and I quote: “You won’t admit that we’re meant to spend the rest of our lives together.”

And there is kissing and sex.

I am happy that they are back together, because I have to admit… They were my favourite couple! And I found the Caleb/Spener thing disgusting.

They leave Hannah and Caleb to have sex and they go to Alison’s house.

PLL s07e10

And after a few moments she announces that SHE IS PREGNANT!!! WHAAT!?! I had the feeling she was pregnant… So… I told you so.    🙂

And she kisses Emily. A few times.

The other liar that has problems is ARIA! Ezra is still in colombia and he is coming back! BUT NOT REALLY!!! BECAUSE NICOLE IS ALIVE!!! I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT! I SAID SO!

PLL s07e10

I felt sorry for Aria… Come on, her fiancé kissing another woman on national television. It’s funny and the same time depressing.

And the detective starts hitting on Spencer… Again. I’m like: I don’t even care anymore.

PLL s07e10

But the morning she goes to see Toby and she brings him a book in french and says some shit about love. And then…

Oh Honey GIF

Ok. This is one of my favourite things… She asks him if she can kiss him… I laughed so much and said “Oh Honey!” a bunch of time, How I Met Your Mother style.

Spencer isn’t the only one with an eventful morning. There is some tension between Emily-Alison-Paige.

PLL s07e10

Also, Emily is like “I woke up like this” Beyoncé style… SO ANNOYING.

Anyway, the tests come back and Noel isn’t Mary Drake’s child!! Surprise surprise! I feel like with all of this relationship stuff, the secret child’s identity is meaningless.

They decide to go question Noel and they somehow manage to sneak away from the cops leaving a recording of them talking so they won’t get suspicious. After 7 seasons, we know the Rosewood police force is basically shit, but COME ON!!

And Noel has escaped! Obviously.

PLL s07e10

And Caleb and Mona were fooled by another girl pretending to be Jenna! SHE GOT AWAY!!

And as soon as they arrive to the place A.D. told them to when he/she texted them, who do they see? MARY FLIPPING DRAKE!

And there are speakers around the house! So Jenna can talk to them! So obviously they go upstairs and find weird typical “I’m a serial killer” stuff but Emily left the phone up there! COME ON!

Oh, and then the psychotic version of Noel Khan appears together with Jenna! And she has a gun!

PLL s07e10

But Emily and Hannah hit Noel and he falls unto his weapon and his head gets cut off from his body. AHAHAHAHAHA. COME ON!! IT WAS RIDICULOUS!

With Spencer “Can I kiss you?”, this was definitely the highlight of the episode.

BUT Jenna finds them and pulls the trigger, hitting Spencer on the chest.

PLL s07e10

Fortunately, Jenna gets tackled by Mary Drake and just after a few seconds after the other girls arrived, she tells Spencer that SHE is actually her mother. AAHAAHAHAHAAHAH. SPENCER IS MARY DRAKE’S SECOND SECRET CHILD!

And in the next scene we find out that Toby and Yvonne had a car crash!! COME ON!!!! HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE!?!?!

As final scene, we see Jenna on the floor and she asks some unknown person if they shot Spencer. Does that mean that Jenna didn’t shoot her? WHAT? I’m so confused…

2016-08-31 (16).png

Anyway, I had so much fun watching this. HILARIOUS!!!!

I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen on 7B… From what I have heard, the series will return on April 2017 and I am super sad about it. ALMOST A WHOLE YEAR!

Nevermind, I hope you had some fun reading this. If you have seen the episode, let me know what you think about it in the comments.
