September 2017 TV Premiere

Weirdly enough, September and October are my favourite months. New seasons come out, exciting pilots make their debut on televisions and there are the Emmys. (Just as a reminder, September 17th.)

What could be better? I am literally jumping up and down from happiness. So many shows are back, so many new stories, characters, plot twists… This is heaven.

I’m going to cheat a little bit and insert in this list a show that came back for its 2nd season on Sunday August the 27th on ITV: VICTORIA

Starring Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria, it describes her life on the thrones. If you want to know more, there is a link on the title of each show that goes to one of my reviews. (Or rather, incredibly long rants and freakouts).

Without further ado, here is the list of my shows coming back on September:

September 6th: YOU’RE THE WORST

You're The Worst

This show is coming back for its fourth season and I LOVE IT. I literally cannot wait to see what is going on with Jimmy and Gretchen. The season 3 finale left me completely shocked and I have been wondering for months what will happen next.

Wednesdays at 10:30/8:30C PM on FXX

September 14th: BETTER THINGS

Another FX show and this is about an actress who is a single mother trying to deal with her three children and her crazy mom. I watched the first season when it came out and although it has nothing new or particular, it resonated with me. I saw myself in them. It’s created by Louis C.K. and Pamela Adlon, who also stars in it.

If you’re looking for a fun comedy, check it out!

Thursdays at 10/9c on FX

September 26th: BROOKLYN NINE-NINE

Brooklyn Nine Nine

At the beginning, I thought this didn’t have much depth. It felt like a stupid and ridiculous comedy that you watch only to give your brain a break. But it is actually so funny. And socially relevant. It talks about race, discrimination, homophobia, prejudice and police brutality… while making you laugh. It is created by Micheal Schur, who was also behind “The Office” (US) and “Parks and Recreation.”.

We left off at the end of season 4 with Jake and Rosa in a difficult situation and I really want to know what the writers have written!

Moreover, after seeing Captain Holt’s dog Cheddar, I fell in love with Welsh Corgi. THEY ARE SO CUTE! Google them!

Tuesdays at 9.30/8.30c on FOX

This Is Us - Season 1September 26: THIS IS US

I don’t want to talk about this. I’m going to cry. And I have cried for 18 episodes plus the talk at the end with the actors. I’ve never been more devastated in my entire life.

It’s an amazing show, VERY cheesy some times (especially how Jack and Rebecca met. Probably the only thing I did not like on the show) but it makes me feel EVERYTHING. The day after I watch it, I have a horrible headache because of the crying. It rips me into a million pieces.

Highly recommend it. You won’t regret it.

Tuesdays at 9/8c on NBC

September 27th: MODERN FAMILYmodernfamily_s6_si_l

THE. ABSOLUTE. BEST.

Still spectacular after 8 seasons, Modern Family is back! I have seen every single episode of this show at least 10 times. Whenever I feel a bit down or I want to watch something familiar, this is what to turn to. Absolutely magnificent.

My sister and I have religiously watched 3 days a week when we were having lunch alone. I know it like the back of my hand and I’m never tired of it. It’s just so funny and deep and at times sad. It just gives me warm feelings of happiness and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have this show in my life.

Wednesdays at 9/8c on ABC

September 28th: Grey’s Anatomy

anatomy

A show I truly loved and now watch only to see how ridiculous it is going to get season after season. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE Grey’s Anatomy! But after most of the original cast’s departure, it hasn’t been the same.

I’m not really sure what they are doing with most storylines, but I’ve been watching it for years and it’s a ritual! A tradition!

I literally don’t remember what happened on previous season finale, but amen! I’ll catch up eventually!

On Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC

September 28th: Will & Grace

Immagine correlata

I hadn’t watched “Will and Grace” until this year. I was 2 years old in 1998 and I highly doubt there were showing it here in Italy. Anyway, WHAT A SHOW!

I can’t believe how socially advanced it was and how much it did to the LGBT community. It was one of the first (if not THE first) show in America to have an openly gay man as lead actor. And the cameos! Ellen, Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Britney Spears, Matt Damon and more!

I love that it is recorded in front of a live audience like “Friends” because it gives it so much more life and character. I am not afraid they’ll ruin the original show (like it happened for Gilmore Girls, according to some people) and I truly can’t wait for present-day jokes and pop culture references! So happy!

Airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC

Immagine correlataSeptember 30th: Saturday Night Live

I wasn’t really into it until this year and the wonderful election season. Maybe because they talked about people I didn’t know or I didn’t understand the comedy.

I still don’t get why they find a lot of the jokes funny, but it is great political satire. I feel head over heels in love with Kate McKinnon (nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series) and Alec Baldwin (their most notable characters include Hillary Clinton, Kellyanne Conway and AG Jeff Session for Kate; and Donald Trump for the magnificent Baldwin).

I am sure I’ll watch it religiously every Sunday (bloody time zones, I have to wait the day after to see it).

On Saturdays on NBC

Hope you like this! Maybe there are more, but these are the ones I’m most excite about! As always, let me know if there are any shows I should watch!

Broadchurch Season 3 Premiere

BREAKING NEWS!

DAVID TENNANT IS BACK ON TV!

I can’t believe this day is actually here! I couldn’t wait any longer! David Tennant has a special place in my heart and seeing him back on TV made my day.

I know, I’m a week late with this post: I couldn’t come to terms with the happiness of having David back in my life.

Sadly, this is the last season that sees DI Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and DS Ellie Miller (or as we better know her “Millah”) fighting crime in a small community in Dorset, England.

After a jaw-dropping first season and a non-equally good second season, in the third one, we are three years in the future. And this time the crime is different.

The past seasons were all about Danny’s murder and the trial of his killer, but the crime that is being discussed is sexual assault.

And they dealt with it in the most sensitive and respectful way. When a horrible thing like this is portrayed on television, there is little to no depth about the difficulties and the immense struggle the victim has to go through. I feel like it’s been normalized and viewers aren’t shocked by it anymore. And this is NOT ok. This “rape culture” has to stop because it’s abominable.

From the first scene of the episode (Trish sat down in front of the police station), we see a different perspective, the victim’s. Chris Chibnall, the show’s writer, decided to approach this topic to raise awareness of the increasing number of unreported sexual assaults in the UK.

Coming back to the rest of the story, the Latimer’s are dealing with life in the best way they can. Beth and Mark are separated and they live in different houses and the two girls (in case you don’t remember Beth found out she was pregnant a couple of weeks after her son’s death).

Mark is also regretting the decision of giving a series of interviews for a book about his son Danny. Speaking of children, Ellie Miller is having some problems with her son Tom, who was caught watching porn at school. Like she didn’t have enough problems already.

Anyway, the episode swallowed me entirely. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Lately, I’ve been easily bored by a lot of series but this kept me focused and on the edge of my seat.

Also, I reminded me how intense David Tennant’s acting is. His eyes are just… Every time he is on screen, he has this magnetic aura and his tortured expression always takes my breath away. He has a way of owning the screen and transmitting to the audience what the character is feeling. He is one of the finest British actors and I love him dearly. He definitely has a special place in my heart. And his accent on the show is gorgeous. ❤

And can we talk about Julie Hesmondhalgh performance!?! AMAZING!

And obviously the spectacular Olivia Coleman… ❤

I already know that this is probably going to be the highlight of March and probably of 2017.

Let me know if you’ve seen the episode and if you haven’t: GO CHECK IT OUT! NOW!

Victoria season 1 episode 1 – Review

I was so excited when TV announced that they would be releasing an 8-episode series all about Queen Victoria! I studied her at school and loved her!

It wasn’t just my interest in Queen Victoria that drawn me to the series, but also the lovely Jenna Coleman, who play the companion Clara Oswald on Doctor Who!

From what I have understood, people are comparing it to “Downton Abbey” and not just for the upstairs/downstairs vibe, but also because of the huge budget that was spent of the show.

The show is utterly british, with the dark and depressing atmosphere but right from the very first minutes, the show immediately captures the audience.

First of all, if you aren’t very familiar with british history, be prepared to press pause and google almost every character (except the Queen) that come up on the screen. Nevertheless, don’t let this stop you from watching it.

To summon everything up, when the King dies, Alexandrina Victoria suddenly become queen at the tender age of 18. Up until then, she had lived away from everything and everyone. She was being protected by her trick german mother (played by Catherine H. Flemming) who created the “Kensington System”. Alexandrina even had to sleep in the same room as her mother and couldn’t go anywhere alone. She HAD to be accompanied by someone at ALL times.

So, as soon as she became Queen she changed her name to Victoria and distanced herself from her mother’s guidance.

Victoria also became friends with the Prime Minister Lord William Lamb II, Lord Melbourne (Rufus Sewell). And let’s just say that he melted some british hearts…

He quickly became her private secretary, a position that will be taken over by Prince Albert in later years.

Victoria ITV ep 1

Also, there were rumor of the Queen having an affair with the Prime Minister. In fact, you can actually you can see some tension between them, but of course nothing happens.

Another kind of tension is the one between Victoria and Sir John Conroy (Paul Rhys). He wanted to control her and rumor has it that he had an affair with Victoria’s mother.

Very important, is also scandal around Lady Flora (Alice Orr-Ewing), her mother’s maid. The Queen was convinced that she was pregnant and that the father was Sir Conroy.

But it turned out to be liver tumor and Victoria embarrassed not only herself but also Lady Flora.

The fact that she was so young made it very difficult for people to trust her. This was one of the main problems that she had to face after becoming the Queen. That, and being too short. 🙂

In the downstairs part, in perfect Downton Abbey style, they went against each other for CANDLES. CANDLES, PEOPLE!! But I love it so much. Can’t wait to see what they are going to argue about next episode! I feel like I’m back in the kitchen with Mrs Patmore, Daisy and Thomas.

I love the costumes, the set design and basically everything about it.

The only thing that made me cringe, was the CGI screen. You could see from miles away that it was (pardon my French) bullshit. It’s a tiny yet noticeable detail on an amazing and almost perfectly made tv series.

Let me know if you have seen it and if you liked Jenna Coleman performance. In my opinion, she was fantastic. ❤

Have a nice day,

Georgia   🙂
