God Friended Me – s01 ep 01 – “Pilot” – SERIES PREMIERE

God Friended Me (2018)I was browsing through the TVLine.com fall premiere pilots calendar and this show caught my eye.

Not because I was interested in it,  but because I was shocked somebody would even make this.

IMDb’s synopsis says:

“An atheist’s life is turned upside down when he is “friended” by God on Facebook.”

I mean… why? Why would anyone make a show about being friended by God on fucking Facebook!

Miles (Brandon Michael Hall) is a normal guy who is an atheist and has a podcast all about it. All of a sudden he gets a friend request from an account called “God” and weird things start happening: God send him a friend suggestions and Miles ends up saving this guy’s life.

He then puts him in contact with Cara (Violett Beane), a young woman who works for a magazine and with Miles’ co-worker and friend Rakesh (Suraj Sharma), they try to figure out what is going on.

Miles goes to meet his dad (Scandal’s Papa Eli Pope’s Joe Morton), who ironically, is a priest.

And things start to unravel in front of them with secrets and coincidences coming to light.

I never thought I would say this but the line: “I found God. He is in Jersey” is gold. And a Mr Robot reference! (I miss that show…)

I am surprised by CBS’s diversity.

This network is not known for its diverse main characters, so it’s an overdue small improvement.

The fact that it is a surprise an African-American man is the lead in a show in 2018 says a lot about the overall whiteness of the entire network.

It’s an interesting show, with a weird and crazy premise but the writing is a bit rhetorical. It feels like it wants to teach me to believe in God and I’m not here for it.

The acting is decent at best and the writing is unbelievably predictable. It’s cliché line after cliché line.

I thought it could be a show that might give us a new and fresh prospective on faith and God but it did not deliver. At least in the pilot.

I do not think I will watch it faithfully (eeheheh see what I did there?) week after week but I just might watch a couple of episodes. I’m intrigued to see the direction the show will be going in.

And a nice bit of trivia… it is produced by Berlanti Production, the same Greg Berlanti that is behind the movie “Love, Simon”, “Riverdale” and more of The CW’s shows.

Did you see the show? What do you think about it? Will you keep watching?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine At San Diego’s Comic Con

NBC hasn’t aired an episode yet and it has already done more publicity to the show than FOX in 5 years.

I love NBC right now. Home of the best comedy TV shows ever aired.

There was a panel, loads of interview and Q&A! In case you missed them, here are all the ones I have found!

So much happened at Comic Con and I could not be happier. The show was finally celebrated as it truly deserved, there was so much love from fans (even Mark Hamill in incognito at the panel)

I am so happy for them. And I cannot wait for season 6 to air in 2019 ON FORKING NBC!!!!

Top 10 Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 5 Episodes

I’ve talked extensively about my love for Brooklyn Nine-Nine on this blog and I’m not about to stop now!

Season 5 has been perfect.

Usually by the fifth season, a show is starting to deteriorate but Michael Schur, Dan Goor and all the writers and producers have preserved its high quality.

There are so many perfect episodes and I am still not sure I can pick my top 10 favourites. I loved every minute of every second of the 22 episodes. I wish I could watch it all over again as if it t were the first time.

If only that was possible!

EPISODE 22(my review) and Peraltiago

Of course, the best episodes of season 5 of Brooklyn 99 are all 22 episodes.

There is no doubt in that. But these are the ones that made me laugh and/or cry the most. I love this show and I’ll never get tired of talking about it.

I really want to know your favourites!

One Of The Worst Parties I’ve Ever Been To

So… A couple of weeks ago I talked about this party that I was supposed to go to in my “What’s Been Going on” post and it happened two Saturdays ago.

I was not happy.

Not at all.

I didn’t have a totally terrible time but I had to restrain myself from standing up and starting yelling at them.

It was my high school friend’s birthday party and she invited a group of people who is wildly different from me. They like to drink, get wasted and party.

In the last post, I talked about how I would storm out and throw a fit whenever I heard ugly comments.

They swore like sailors. And by swearing I don’t mean the odd f-word or something like that. In Italy, we call it “bestemmiare”, I’d say the closest translation might be “to blaspheme”.

But they didn’t it all the time. Two or three in every single sentence. It was disgusting.

And not because I’m a particularly religious person, it’s just common decency. It’s ugly and disrespectful. They must have said at least 300 of them. I’m not joking.

And you would not believe the racist stuff they said. Not to mention the homophobic slurs.

I was fucking disgusted. It made me sick to my stomach.

Oh, and I also got a gin and tonic spilled on my dress.

You can hear the sarcasm from across the globe.

And I was mostly disappointed in myself. Because I didn’t say anything. But what can you say? What can you do without causing a scene and ruining your friend’s party? They notice I didn’t laugh with them and that I wasn’t even smiling. At all.

But I still feel guilty. Now, I wish I had done something. Because if you see something wrong and you don’t say anything, aren’t you a part of the problem as well?

I’ve been wrecking my brain trying to think of what I could or should have done. I rewatched a season 1 episode of Brooklyn99, in which Jake punches a homophobic journalist in the face because he insulted Captain Holt.

Maybe I should have done the same. Now the punching part, obviously. But I should not have stood by and done nothing.

The only thing that is keeping me from tearing my hair from my skull is knowing that I’ll be able to say something the next time. My friend, the only one who did not participate, invited me to a party he is throwing at the end of July and I’ll probably go just because he is the one who invited me.

But I’ll have a chance of a do-over. And I promise to get it right.

Still, I need advice. How do I make my point come across without punching him in the face or insulting him like there is not tomorrow?

Can you help me? What should I have done and what do you recommend I should do next time?
