70th Primetime Emmy Awards: Comedy (Supporting Actors, Lead Actors & Outstanding Series)

And last but not least…. Comedy! Supporting Actors and Actresses, Lead Actors and Actresses and Outstanding series!

Check out all my other opinions:

Now let’s go!

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series

2018-09-03 (6).png

What a great group of ladies!!!

Aside from Laurie Metcalf, I’m very familiar with all these performances and they’re great!

Let me start by saying I don’t understand Glow. I like it but I don’t get it. Alex Bornstein was amazing on The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and Megan Mullally is a legend.

The three SNL ladies are brilliant but my pick is Kate.

Kate McKinnon had a fantastic season on SNL and she can literally play any person. She has no limitation.

2017 Winner: Kate McKinnon, SNL

My Winner: Kate McKinnon, SNL

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series

I don’t know Louie Anderson and I don’t even know Baskets. Sorry.

But I do know the other actors and their performances!

Alec Baldwin’s Trump impersonation has become iconic and, speaking of SNL, YAY Kenan Thompson! His first nomination!

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s season 4 is mind-blowing! So good! Tituss Burgess’ performance was so funny! I loved him! Brian Tyree Henry was also unbelievable on Atlanta‘s “Barbershop”! It was so funny!

I can’t decide between Henry Winkler and Tony Shalhoub. They were so unique on their own show and they were both amazing.

I just can’t…

Also, where is Andre Braugher? Where is his nomination? He needs it. He deserves it.

on top of that… WHAT ABOUT ZACH WOODS? He killed it as Jared Dunn! I’m so pissed about this.

2017 Winner: Alec Baldwin, SNL

My Winner: Henry Winkler / Tony Shalhoub

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series

I don’t get “Moms” and I don’t get “Grace and Frankie”. Sorry Allison Janney and Lily Tomlin. I’m just putting it out there.

I loved Pamela Adlon on Better Things. The show is great, so different and a comedy but not really. It deals with intense things.

Tracee Ellis Ross. I love her. I love her. So much. She is such an interesting person and her portrayal of Dr. Bow Johnson was so good. I need to mention the post-partum depression episode. She was magnificent.

My pick for the Emmy has to be Rachel Brosnahan. I fell in love with her and “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel”. She was incredible on the show and she deserves it.

2017 Winner: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep

My Winner: Rachel Brosnahan, “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel”

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Serieslead actor in comedy.png

I do not watch Shameless (yet) and I don’t like Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. I don’t want a Bernie Sander’s lookalike to yell at me for 30 minutes.

And now it gets tough. Anthony Anderson has been amazing as Dre Johnson but I feel like we need to concentrate on Donald, Bill and Ted.

Season 2 of Altanta was so weird, so strange and so amazing. Ted Danson as Michael on The Good Place was iconic and he gave such a terrific performance.

And Bill Hader. Wow. Barry sounds like it shouldn’t work but it super does. It’s genius.

2017 Winner: Donald Glover, Altanta

My Winner: Bill Hader / Ted Danson (Sorry Donald).

Outstanding Comedy Series

I don’t get Curb Your Enthusiasm and Glow. I will watch season 2 of Glow but I think it is not for me.

Now, how can I choose between these? Silicon Valley was hilarious and Blackish talked about so many important and socially relevent topics.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was so incredibly funny this season! I was not that into it in the past but WOW!

Atlanta killed it. It was so weird and so innovative. So NEW.

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise quite dark comedy environment. It was so bright, fun and hilarious.

And now onto Barry. A show about a sniper who wants to become an actor. How can it work?, you ask. It can, it does and it’s magnificent.

2017 Winner: Veep (HBO)

My Winner: The Marvelous Mrs Maisel / Barry

That’s it!

70th Primetime Emmy Awards – Comedy (Writing, Directing, Guest Actor and Guest Actress)

And now comedy! Probably my favourite genre!

But first, in case you missed it, go check out my first installment in this 70th Emmy Awards series! It’s Limited Series, Variety and Reality

Let’s go!

Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series

  • Altanta “Alligator Man”, written by Donald Glover
  • Atlanta “Barbershop”, written by Stefani Robinson
  • Barry “Chapter One: Make Your Mark”, written by Alec Berg and Bill Hader
  • Barry “Chapter Seven: Loud, Fast and Keep Going”, written by Liz Sarnoff
  • Silicon Valley “Fifty-One Percent”, written by Alec Berg
  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel “Pilot”, written by Amy Sherman-Palladino

This is really hard. These shows are all amazing. “Barbershop” is so well-written and it holds the tention until the last seconds, both episodes of Barry are devastatingly scary and yet hilarous;

and Amy Sherman-Palladino! COME ON!

Alec Berg is nominated for two different shows! That definitely says something! I might have to go for Barry. It’s such a new and innovative show and it deserves recognition!

2017 Winner: Master of None “Thanksgiving”, written by Lena Waithe

My Winner: Barry “Chapter One: Make Your Mark”, written by Alec Berg and Bill Hader

Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series

  • Altanta “FUBU”, directed by Donald Glover
  • Atlanta “Teddy Perkins”, directed by Hiro Murai
  • Barry “Chapter One: Make Your Mark”, directed by Bill Hader
  • Glow “Pilot”, directed by Jesse Peretz
  • Silicon Valley “Initial Coin Offering”, directed by Mike Judge
  • The Big Bang Theory “The Bow Tie Asymmetry”, directed by Mark Cendrowski
  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel “Pilot”, directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino

Sorry Bill, I love you and you were amazing as director but…

Teddy Perkins directed by Hiro Murai.

2017 Winner: Atlanta “B.A.N.”, directed by Donald Glover

My Winner: Atlanta “Teddy Perkins”, directed by Hiro Murai

Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series

2018-08-20-13.png

I can’t decide between Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph.

Wanda Sykes, Tiffany Haddish, Jane Lynch and Molly Shannon were great in their roles but they didn’t leave me with an Emmy worthy impression.

Tina was phenomenal as always but Maya’s role as the judge in “The Good Place” was unforgettable.

Sorry Tina, I love you. Like, a lot…

2017 Winner: Melissa McCarthy, SNL

My Winner: Maya Rudolph, The Good Place

Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series

2018-08-20 (14).png

I’m sorry Donald, I’m sorry Bill, I’m sorry Lin-Manuel but…

STERLING K BROWN “BROOKLYN NINE-NINE” FOREVER BITCHES!!!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine At San Diego’s Comic Con

THE NINE-NINE WAS AT COMIC CON 2018!!!

NBC hasn’t aired an episode yet and it has already done more publicity to the show than FOX in 5 years.

I love NBC right now. Home of the best comedy TV shows ever aired.

There was a panel, loads of interview and Q&A! In case you missed them, here are all the ones I have found!

Podcasts: What I’ve Been Listening To

I can’t believe that now I’m that person who is always talking about the podcasts they are listening to.

And yet… here we are!

I started getting into podcasts thanks to the guys at “Pod Save America” and I love them!

I usully listen to them in the car: I can’t connect my phone to the car so I just leave it on the dash board. Or when I’m cooking and I can’t stare at a screen, I get my speaker out and blast Jon Lovett’s hilarious rants on the highest volume available.

POD SAVE AMERICA

Risultati immagini per pod save america logoI’ve been listening to Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Tommy Vietor and Dan Pfeiffer’s bi-weekly podcasts for a long time. I’m not that consistent. At times it gets too much. Too specific for a non-american person.

But it is the only podcast whose adds are probably it’s best parts. They are so good.

And in true Crooked Media fashion…

Pod Save America is….. a better way to have a no bullshit conversation about politics.

LOVETT OR LEAVE IT

Immagine correlataThe second Crooked Media podcasts in this list. It’s my favourite.

Jon is so funny, passionate and unapologetic. This Baby Boomers rants are THE BEST and the issues they discuss with a rich and extremely diverse group of panellists are so relevant and important. I get to learn about different problems while having a good laugh.

I’ve listened to every single episode ever released and I cannot recommend it enough.

The Good Place: The Podcast

Risultati immagini per the good place podcastSomehow this show escaped me. I started watching it after season 2 ended. I purpsefully waited until it was over to binge watching in one sitting.

And now they have relseased a podcasts! It’s hoste by Marc Evan Jackson, who plays Shawn on The Good Place and Kevin, the love of Capt. Raymond Holt’s life on Brooklyn99. (And Mr Sapertein’s lawyer on Parks and Rec.).

His soothing and deep voice is perfect! It’s relaxing and the conversations are extremely interesting and insightful, especially regarding the behind-the-scenes of the show.

The first episode has Parks and Rec and The Good Place’s creator and Brooklyn99’s co-creator Michael Schur. There was never any doubt he was an interesting person and after this, I am further convinced of this.

I love getting to know how a show like “The Good Place” comes to life and I love it.

If you’re interested into the show or you want to know more about casting, producing and writing a tv show, it’s definitely the podcast for you.

Do you listen to podcasts? Do you have any recommendations? Are you obsessed as I am about US politic?
