Killing Eve, The Bold Type, Fleabag and Riverdale – Tv Shows I’m Bringing With Me On Holiday – Part 1

It’s finally summer time!

I’ve finished my exam session almost a month ago, the concert I helped organising went perfectly and my birthday was barely acknowledged. (I’m not complaining it’s exactly what I wanted)

3 weeks at the beach, no internet, no people (aside from my extended family) and so much relaxing. I am excited to go. I’m bringing lots of tv shows, books, music… I plan on relaxing from the moment I wake up to the minute I go to sleep.

There is one huge downside: no internet.

Therefore, I have a list of show I’ll be bringing with me.

KILLING EVE

https://mr.comingsoon.it/imgdb/SerieTV/serie/1763/1763.jpgI had heard “Grey’s Anatomy” ‘s Sandra Oh was coming back to TV but I didn’t make a big deal out of it. Until now! I should have kept an eye on it because it is created, produced, directed and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is also behind “Crashing” and “Fleabag” and was in Broadchurch with my main man David Tennant. And not to mention the other protagonist of the show, Jodie Comer. She played Kate in the BBC’s “Doctor Foster”.

I don’t really know what the story is about. I’ve tried to avoid it as much as I could. I want the element of surprise. I know it involves Spies, the MI5 and an assassin. So I’m super intrigued.

THE BOLD TYPE

Risultati immagini per the bold type posterI can’t believe this show escaped me as well! I’ve heard it’s quite a feminist show. (apparently mostly white feminist, but feminist nonetheless.)

It’s inspired by the life of the former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles. I have no clue who she is and what the magazine is about, so I’m going in knowing nothing. Literally. Apparently, it’s a recurring theme in this post.

I’ve heard people say it’s like a modern version of “The Devil Wears Prada”. I’ll let you know my thoughts!

RIVERDALE

Risultati immagini per riverdale posterI know. I’m trash.

I swore to myself I wasn’t going to watch this. But my sister is kind of buddy-watching it with one of her friends and I gave up. This is so addictive. Just like Pretty Little Liars. I should hate this but I love it so much.

It’s so bad. Like, really bad. The acting, the dialogue and directing is garbage but I can’t stop thinking about it. Well done, The CW. Well done.

This show is about Riverdale, a small american town where a young teenage boy dies and secrets start to unravel. It’s basically “Pretty Little Liars” meets “Gossip Girl” (there is an actual narrator Gossip Girl-style) and “Twin Peaks”.

It’s garbage and I love it.

Risultati immagini per b99 holt pure garbage

FLEABAG

Risultati immagini per fleabag posterPhoebe Waller Bridge’s Amazon and BBC Three’s TV show about a woman trying to live her London life after experiencing a tragedy.

I can’t believe I have to say this again but… I know very little about this one too. I know there is Olivia Coleman (KWEEN!!!!) and a racy scene involving her and a video of one of President Obama’s speeches.

It received great reviews so I can’t wait to see it. I say this even though it has been on my TO-WATCH list for at least a year and a half.

Here is part 1 of the list of shows I’ll be bringing with me on holiday. YES, I’M NOT JOSHING AROUND. IT’S PART 1, PEOPLE.

Have you got any recommendation for me? Are there any shows you think more people should watch? Let me know!

You can find me here, or on Twitter or you can send me an email!

July Favourites 2017

It’s already the middle August and I’m here writing about my July favourites. Great timing.

Staring with the not-so-great news, I began studying again. I have to take again my exams because I have failed them, so yay. You can almost hear through these words how happy I am. πŸ™„πŸ˜’

But July has been quite a good months. I haven’t had many bad days. My parents went away for 5 days and having the house (almost) to myself was THE BEST.Β  My sister and I watched Harry Potter, ate junk food, watched Game of Thrones and at least 20 episodes of Suits. Yeah. Things got out of control.

What I have loved most about this month, it’s been the beach. I went on holiday at the beginning of July and it was amazing. I was relaxed, I read a ton and looked like a tanned homeless person. I LOVED IT.

Beauty wise, I have been wearing a lot of bold lipsticks and I ADORE of all them! The new shades I bought for my birthday are spectacular (especially the Maybelline ones). On my eyes, I HAD to wear something and I decided to keep it pretty low maintenance. I curl my lashes and then put on two coats of my Clinique Chubby Lash Mascara. I had doubts about it, but it’s a good product. I have tried better ones and would not repurchase it again because of the price, but still… It was a present so… πŸ™‚

jane_the_virgin_xlgTV wise, I haven’t really watched anything new. Something is wrong with me. I have been rewatching a lot of comedies and one of the weirdest shows I have seen is “Jane The Virgin”. It’s basically a parody of spanish telenovelas, told as a telenovela.

The protagonist, Jane, gets artificially inseminated and has to deal with the consequences of this event. The show is so funny and it’s incredibly well-made. Every single characters is amazingly crafted and has so much depth. From Rogelio to Abuela to Petra. Can’t wait to see season four this autumn!

SONY DSCAside from “Jane The Virgin”, I got back into Suits. This USA Network program is so underrated. It’s so clever, witty, dramatic and breathtaking. It also deals with race, women of colour in a male-dominated workplace and some badass quotes by Harvey Specter.

I haven’t even talked about the plot. Mike Ross, bike messenger whose life is stuck, gets hired by the best lawyer of New York City (according to him), despite not having attended law school.

12000020While I was at the beach, I had loads of time to read and after hearing high praises on “Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe”, I decided to give it a go.

And I adored it! Although at times I felt like some of the conversations between Dante and Aristotle were weird and (in my experience) a bit forced, I LOVED IT. The struggles of these two boys discovering and exploring their lives and their friendship.

It made me feel warm inside, happy and sad at the same time.
Would recommend it to EVERYBODY. Please read it. It’s truly wonderful.

I hope you liked this post (although in the middle of August). What have you been loving this month? Let me know three things you have enjoyed!

Holiday Wrap-up 2017

I’m back from my holiday! It was good, I got super tanned and read quite a lot.

Let me start by saying this: I did not read as much as I wanted: there was Wi-Fi at the beach! FREE WI-FI!!! For the first time EVER! John Oliver was on, loads of makeup tutorial and a ton of bookish videos. How could I resist?!

Even though I was quite absorbed with my tv shows and youtube videos, I am quite happy with the selection of books I managed to finish.

So in 2 weeks, I read 5 books:

  • The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair by Joel Dicker

19301797I’ve wanted to read this book for ages and I finally did it! There are flaws and some of the main focus points were a bit ridiculous but it was fast-paced and extremely engaging. If you are looking for a murder mystery book you can’t put down, I’d recommend this one. The relationship between Harry and Nola felt a bit stupid, but I couldn’t stand the romance between them. I wasn’t impressed by Quebert’s obsession of scribbling Nola’s name everywhere… it sounded like he was a 12-year-old school boy. But maybe this is exactly what the writer intended. Other than that, this book is an amazing page turner.

I LOVE the writing: simple, quick, no long descriptions and engaging.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars!

  • Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare

12957I wanted to read it again just to see the play with David Tennant and Catherine Tate… but I haven’t seen it yet! πŸ™„

The play was longer than I imagined and more difficult! “Othello” was definitely easier but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Reading it in English was quite challenging, I have to admit it. The edition I have has a translation of the right side and sometimes I had to read it in italian to properly understand what was going on.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars!

  • Aristotle and Dante Explore The Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

12000020I read this book in two days. I could not put it down. Absolutely adored it. It is definitely worthy of all the hype that has been going around.
Although at times I felt like some of the conversations between Dante and Aristotle were weird and (in my experience) a bit forced, I LOVED IT.

It made me feel warm inside, happy and sad at the same time. The two families were probably one of the most amazing things of the book.

Would recommend it to EVERYBODY. Please read it. It’s truly wonderful! The writing is very good, quick and fast-paced and at the same time full of emotions.

I am picking up Benjamin Alire Saenz’s second book as soon as I can!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars!

18302455This book is completely useless.
Nothing happens. Literally nothing. I was waiting for something, even a tiny little bit of action… but it never did.
And not in a cute Downton Abbey kind of way.
The main character Mae is totally stupid, has no personality and she is just terrible.
You just follow her journey of becoming an even bigger idiot throughout the course of the book.

I gave it two start just because the message of the book isn’t too made. I make you think of what kind of society we are becoming. But if you are into this genre, I suggest not reading this and watching “Black Mirror”. A thousand times better.

I am sorry I wasted time reading this. The premise was good, the delivery poor. It made no sense to me. There was no beginning, no end, no resolution, no tension, no problems.
400 pages of nothing.

I don’t usually write negative review, but this was dumb.

⭐⭐ 2 stars!

23299522I studied russian in school and I read parts of “Il cappotto” (The coat) in its original language. I tried to read other classics but russian novels are intimidating. These two short stories are hilarious and make no sense. They are so fun to read and although the ending is not a happy one, you won’t be disappointed.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars!

Hope you liked this wrap-up and please let me know your opinions or any recommendations you might have.

Thanks for reading!

My Summer Tv Shows 2017

Every summer I go to the beach for two (or three) weeks. It is a wonderful time of peace and relax. At the same time it also crushes my soul because I am living in a tiny apartment with my mother and my aunt. And I have to contain myself and smile and nod like a good girl.
BUT, it also means no internet for 2 whole weeks. Which is hard! I have Netflix, Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah to watch!

But like I do every year, I pick some series to take with me to the beach. Last year I took “22.11.63”, “Game Of Thrones” and the pilot of “The Last Tycoon”. Uh! And “The office”. I was obsessed. I LOVE that show. ❀️

Anyway, here is what I am taking this year:

1.Jane The Virgin

I started watching it this week thanks to a friend’s recommendation and it’s great. It’s intentionally trashy and basically this is what I live for. I’m already on season 2 due to a sleepless night and I’m definitely planning on continuing.

2. Game of ThronesGame Of Thrones LOGO

Season 7 is coming out July 16th and I NEED to rewatch at least season 6. I have to get into the sorry again and what better way than rewatching the epic-ness of that magnificent season?

bloodline_tv_series_poster3. Bloodline

I’ve been wanting to watch this series since it came out but I was never in the mood. It’s not a very popular series and I have heard much about it. (I literally know nothing. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰ [Hi, Jon Snow]). I just know that’s all about family drama, betrayal and secrets… so fun and summer-y! πŸ˜‚

4. Parenthood

In Italy they have made a tv show based on the NBC series “Parenthood”. Although it is not the worst I have seen, I’d still like to watch the American version. And Lauren Graham is in it. And I adore her. So I have decided to take a half the first season with me.

5. House of Cards

I started watching “House of Cards” a couple of years ago and it quickly became my sunday show. I ordered pizza and I sat in front of the Tv watching a couple of episodes. Since then I became more disinterested in the show and after the first few episodes of season 4, I abandoned it. But it’s still a great show and I’d like to finish it.

6. 13 Reasons Why

I waited so long to watch this show. And not because I was excited to see it. I was waiting for the hype to die down. Knowing I love TV shows, so many people came up to me saying I HAD to watch it. And as the subborn person that I am, I refused. Just like I did with “Stranger Things”, I decided to pospone the show until people stopped talking about it. But I got into an interesting conversation about the show with a close friend of mine and I wanted to be more engaged into the conversation and therefore… I’m briging it with me to the beach. I wanted to read the book first but… sorry, no.

7. Gilmore Girls

My obsession is still not over. I haven’t talked much about it on the blog but I am still SO INTO IT. I follow so many account about the show on Instagram. I am so obsessed with the show and I feel like a nice evening with Lorelai, Rory and Luke is just the best. JESS I STILL LOVE YOU, I MISS YOU. Hi, Milo…. (insert wink)

I know I won’t be able to watch all of these things. Since I have sooooo many books to take with me. But I want choices. (insert smily face)

I hope you liked it and please let me know what shows you are planning to see this summer!
