We’re halfway through the last season of The Good Place and it is so sad.
The LOVE I feel for these characters is immense and I love them all. No matter how much people improve, they are still themselves and one of my favourite things on the show is seeing the trashbag-from-Arizona coming out.
One other aspect I appreciate is how much of a dickhead Brett is. They really nailed the typical heterosexual white entitled asshole and every time he opens his mouth I want to punch him in the face.
But let’s not get carried away talking about how much I hate Brett. Let’s dive into the episode!
Michael is trying to connect with Janet by telling her a story about the human, in the hope that she will change her mind.
It seems like the humans are getting better! And the Soul Squad is winning prizes left and right!
Of course, Eleanor did a Hottest Saviour of The Week and Michael is feeling left out because he’s never won it. He just wants to be recognized as hot.
But this idyllic period was bound to be ruined by none other than Brent. He wrote a book. It’s obviously terrible and Simone just wants to make fun of it.
After he reads about himself in Brent’s book, Chidi feels like he hasn’t done anything spontaneous in his life, but right in the middle of a dance party with Jason, John finds ut he is not a real monk.
How is John going to keep this secret? And how will Simone refrain from judging Brent’s book?
To be fair, the excerpts they’ve read are HORRIBLE. Worst book ever written.
Why are we still dealing with this shirt in The Good Place?
I feel like this is a question that, if explored, might lead Simone to have some doubts about the legitimacy of the reality she has finally accepted.
On the other side of the Neighborhood, Michale and Brent are playing gold and I LOVE IT!
Point is, Brent is so thick he doesn’t even understand Michael’s obvious metaphors. Not even the second time!
Brent is basically Donald Trump and I feel like they quoted him in this episode: “I don’t have a racist bone in my body” and while I think they hinted at it in previous episodes, now it’s blatantly obvious. So of course, everything escalates too quickly.
I nthe end, Michael gives Bad Janet the Manifesto he wrote with Good Janet in the hope she might go do something good with it and he lets her go.
Tahani’s name-drops: Silvio Berlusconi and Elon Musk
Six Feet Under Par by Brent
Terrible things happening on Earth: The vindictive nerds at Apple changing the charging cable shape again and women refusing to vaccinate their children. Checks out.
Bad!Janet speaking the truth:
Any thought on Brent being Donald Trump? Because it’s uncanny. Or… am I too obsessed with American Politics that I see him everywhere?
I haven’t caught up on The Good Place The Podcast because I’ve had too many new episodes to listen to and far too many tv shows to watch but I hope they mention something related to this.
