Two more mini-reviews! Although “Perfect Harmony” was in my Pilots-I’m-Watching list and “Emergence” was in my Pilot-Maybes, I decided to put them together.
I was so surprised by one of them.
And it might not be the one we’re thinking about.
I was intrigued by this. I really was. Now I want to know what happens next. And I did not think I would.
Emergence is about a Police Chief who gets called on the site of a plane crash and finds a little girl who doesn’t remember anything about her life. And it all becomes weirder and weirder, more mysterious events start happening and I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
I hate that I’m falling for it. I’m falling for the baiting and I don’t like it. But I’ll stick around for another episode at least. And then we’ll see where this is going.
As soon as I finished the episode, I couldn’t help but compare it to one of my favourite tv shows of all time: Fringe. It also starts with a plane crash and a series of mysterious events. This one seems to have a magical or supernatural component to it so I’m just not that into it.
Bradley Whitford is just as charming as ever. And so freaking good.
He plays a former Ivy League professor whose wife has died and he feels completely lost but when he meets a choir, he gets accepted into their group and their community.
Although I liked the premise of a show that revolves around music and creating a community, the execution felt a bit off.
Anna Camp’s accent was probably the thing I could not wrap my head around. It drove me insane. INSANE.
And they got better immediately? After only one episode? I find that hard to believe.
But there’s Schitt’s Creek’s RAY!!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!
I think I’ll watch a couple more episode just to see where it goes but I wasn’t that impressed by the pilot.
Any thoughts on these pilots? I was pleasantly surprised by Emergence. I really did not expect to get that much into it.
Have you been surprised by any show recently? Let me know!
