It’s here. The much-hated finale (on my part) is here and I will fast forward some parts.
Before I get into it and start yelling and swearing like a sailor, I want to say a few things: I like this show. It’s trashy, the plot doesn’t make sense, it’s weird, they’re all so fashionable and it’s worst than a telenovela.
I love it. I have spent some great hours watching it and I was sad when it ended. As of now, they’re doing a spin-off with Alison and it’s bad. It’s really bad. I’ll probably talk about it here in the future.
All of this to say, I was sad to see it end. They took us on a journey and it had so much fun making fun of it both here and IRL. (Riverdale style)
Without much further ado, let’s say goodbye to Pretty Little Liars (two years after the finale aired).
It’s one year later! Aria and Ezra are in Hollywood (his book might be made into a movie), Mona is in a mental institution, Emily and Alison are moms to two adorable babies, Spencer is on a ranch with her sister and horses, Toby is back from… Africa? (What?) and Hannah and Caleb are dealing with Mona coming to live with them.
There’s a new mean girl at Rosewood High and a girl who is finding dolls with knives in her locker.
But all is forgotten! They’re throwing Aria and Ezra a party to celebrate their wedding! And they’re going to France. But there’s tension at the table, especially between Caleb and Hannah. That was awkward.
Uh and Melissa was spying on them from the bushes. With a dark hoodie on. It’s all perfectly normal.
And cue the sex montage!
And Hannah and Caleb are trying to have a baby! While arguing! And it wasn’t Melissa spying on them! It was Mona!
But STOP EVERYTHING! Aria is saying she can’t marry Ezra! Because she can’t have kids. She looked like a little kid sitting on the table talking to him.
And Spencer is visiting her mother in jail to ask for help!
I loved the chemestry between Mrs. Marin and Caleb. It’s clear they like and love each other! And nobody is happy about Mona being at Aria and Ezra’s engagement party.
Aria’s dad has finally accepted him as part of the family and BARF. Again with this “asking the father for permission to marry his daughter“. BARF AGAIN.
Oh right! The moms were locked in the basement! Wait.. how DID they get out?
Aria and Ezra have a discussion about her not telling him about the fertility test and they don’t leave on the best of terms.
AND ALISON AND EMILY GET ENGAGED!
Hannah and Caleb sort out their difference and SEXY TIMES! And Spencer and Toby as well!
Another sex montage? Seriously? Two in one episode?
Aaaaaaand Mona kidnapped Spencer. Because guess what? The one having sex with Toby wasn’t Spencer!
It was her twin sister!
HER BRITISH TWIN SISTER!
And Mary has been on this all along? She escaped! But that’s not important.
I love Troian Bellisario. She’s adorable. But that British accent.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? NO SERIOUSLY. THE FUCK?! LIKE, NO!
Long story short: she’s been pretending to be Spencer, sleeping with Toby and tricking Wren into shooting her so that she would look exactly like Spencer.
British!Spencer (whose real name is Alex, apparently) is super jealous about her sister having it all and so cue the revenge schemes.
I’m sorry but that’s an ugly wedding dress.
And Emily and Alison’s babies are Wren’s? Was I supposed to know that? Is this new information? I’m confused.
Oh and Mary sold her baby, who got adopted and then abandoned again. She sold her baby and this was never brought up again. Like it was all perfectly normal. The fuck?
And Ezra is missing.
Except that he is not missing and he has been kidnapped by British!Spencer.
And so she starts talking! Charlotte and Archer, and Alex and Wren are the fab four of weird! Two power couples! And they start talking, having fun and being all “sisters”.
But British!Spencer was jealous of Real!Spencer who had everything, a family, friends who supported her and so she started infiltrating the group, sleeping with Toby and tricking people.
But the liars are tipped off by a weird guy who was supposed to take Aria and Ezra on a hot air balloon ride and Toby confirms their theories.
The Spencer they have been hanging out with it’s the real one. It’s her EVIL TWIN SISTER! Like, how telenovela is this?
But Mona had been helping them all along!
Mary’s solution to the problem is the best thing I’ve ever heard.
“Let’s take a mother/daughter trip around Europe”.
I LAUGHED SO FUCKING HARD.
Real!Spencer and Ezra manage to escape from their cells but it’s all FAKE! Alex bought the house Toby had built and created underground tunnels with two fake houses, a fake sky, fake trees!
The real question is: where did Alex find all of this money? This must be expensive and as a bartender, her salary must not have been that great!
But the two sisters start fighting, just as the squad (and Toby with a gun) arrives!
The problem is: Who is who?
And after Real!Spencer recites from French poetry, he chooses the right girl.
As a hardcore Fringe fan, this felt a lot like season 3. You know what I mean.
AND IT’S A HARD CUT TO ARIA AND EZRA’S WEDDING! I still don’t like the wedding dress, but it’s better than the last one.
With surprise cameo from the showrunner at the end! Which was lame. It was not subtle. At all.
The last scene was cute. I was a little bit emotional when I watched it the first time. Hannah is pregnant, Aria is leaving for her honeymoon and everybody is crying.
For some reason, this feels like it’s the end of something.
But it’s not over! Mona is in Paris seeling creepy doll and keeping Mary Drake and Alex locked up in a dollhouse.
History repeats itself again when the first scene in the pilot is recreated with the new group of means girls at Rosewood High!
THAT WAS TRASH. I HATED THE LAST PART. Why make it? It doesn’t make sense? Why would the same thing happen again? I don’t understand it. I really don’t.
And the fact that the new resident mean girl’s name is Addison is stupid. It’s really stupid.
It’s over. The show is over and so is my review. How they tied everything together was stupid, the evil twin was idiotic and I hate it just as much as I hated Alex’s horrible British accent.
In a few years time, I’ll probably rewatch this show again. If I’m really desperate.
What are your thoughts on the episode and on the entire show? Write to me. I’d love to know!
But it’s been a hell of a ride and the only thing left to say is… Goodbye.
