The second part of season 5 of Brooklyn Nine Nine comes back today and I’m so excited.
I’ve mentioned this show extensively in here and why not talk about it even more?
Here is my list of why every single person in the world should watch this wonderful masterpiece.
From the stoic Andre Braugher to the scary and indimidating Stephanie Beatriz, the actors working on the show are unbelievably amazing.
Andy Samberg has the best “background face”. After all those years on SNL you can clearly see that he knows how to be on stage. His facial expressions and overall presence on the screen is mesmerising. He knows how to react to what the other people are doing, which is a key element in acting.
Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero, Terry Crews, Stephanie Beatriz are so uniquely fundamental to the show, they give life to the characters and without them Brooklyn Nine Nine would not be the same.
Last but not least, Chelsea Peretti and Andre Braugher. I love them. They play characters that are polar opposites to each other and the complement themselves so perfectly. Andre is sooooo good and his acting is truly superb.
I love them all.
Diversity and Representation
There is so much representation on this show! Two latina detectives who are also strong, independent and successful women, a big black strong sergent with the softest hear ever, a small little man who loves food way too much, a “Gina Linetti” because she is one of a kind, a jewish childish detective who wishes to be in real-life Die Hard and supports feminism, equal rights, the LBGTQ+ community and an openly gay black captain.
What more could you want?
Social issues discussed with humor
From homophobia, the prison system to racism, police profiling and coming out to your parents, Brooklyn Nine Nine has never shyed away from tough topics such as these ones.
I highly recommend watching these very important episodes: s01e01 / s01e08 / s01e16 / s04e16 / s05e01-02 / s05e10
and read my previous post entirely dedicated to this!
The show is so weird and crazy and hilarious and magnificent and every single positive adjective imaginable.
Capt. Holt’s knowledge of orchids, Terry’s love for yogurt, Amy’s perfectionism, Gina’s self esteem and amazing quotes, Jake trying so hard to be cool while being adorable and goofy, Rosa’s secret life, Boyle’s obsession with Jake and Amy’s relationship and Hitchcock and Scully simply being themselves.
Be your true self
On Brooklyn Nine Nine everybody is pushed to be themselves and not to hide who they really are.
To quote Captain Holt:
“Every time someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place.”
Boyle correcting everybody on the name of his son. Even though they were saying it right the whole time.
It’s so funny!!!
One of the best characters ever. Completely crazy, unhinged and with serious mental issues.
He has come back from being undercover for 12 yeas, working for the mob boss Jimmy Figgis and he is completely crazy. Of course, he quickly develops an attraction to Rosa. And this get freaky. Very Very quickly. He is so unstable that it’s unbelievably entertaining. I love him. So much.
This cracks me up every single time. Raymond Holt pretending to be straight is one of my favourite things about the show.
Captain Holt and Kevin’s dog is EVERYTHING
I love all of this. Feminist characters on television are so important. I love you, Jake.
Equality & LGBTQ+
The show almost constantly talks about equality issues and LGBTQ+ rights and I’m living for this.
It’s so important and I’m so glad that transgender, gay and bisexual people are represented on TV.
It’s important to see yourself represented on TV and Brooklyn Nine Nine is doing it.
ICYMI, you can read a post completely dedicated to this HERE
Stupid Jokes (mostly Property Brothers and “Title of your sex tape” related and weird faces)
This collection of GIFs is just the tip of the iceberg. Gina Linetti is the best. Completely self absorbed, dance revelation, twitter genius, so crazy and great friend.
But isn’t Gina Linetti more like a state of mind?
Hitchcock and Scully
They are so weird, so disgusting. They have weird backstories and all the possible medical disease ever but their friendship and total devotion to each other is PERFECT.
If you look at them when they are in the backgrounf during a scene, you can see them doing the weirdest things!!! I love them. They are basically one person and it’s adorable.
Did I mention the cast?
Did I? Like, have you seen them?
