Since You’ve Been Gone

Well… I’ve been gone for a while. I haven’t posted anything in quite a long time.

I haven’t had the time. Or rather, I’ve had the time but I prefered doing something else.

Anyway, I’m kind of back! Not really since I’ll be super busy till the end of January with my exams.

I’ve been studying. That’s what I’ve been doing.

I haven’t stopped watching TV or wearing makeup. I got my car back from the shop and I’ve got petrol on my own for the first time, I’ve got my first proper pay check (directly to my bank account!!!), I went to university regularly and I’ve been watching Brooklyn Nine Nine every single day.

It’s been good. It’s been better.

I don’t remember if I’ve talked about it but we’ve been organizing the traditional concert for our organization and it’s been hell. The evening itself was great and the performance was spectacular, one of the best they’ve done.

Christmas was good. Better than I expected. This time I didn’t even cry! I wore the great dress my mom gave me as present and my own present for myself was even more amazing than I expected. I got myself a Sephora liquid lipstick and yes, it’s just as magnificent as people say it is.

I’ve been meaning to write a post about my television year but I’ve misplaced the agenda where I keep track of what I watch. I am truly devastated.

I gave SPECTACULAR and PERSONAL Christmas gift to my two friends and my little sister. I don’t mean to brag but they were amazing.

I’m off now. I’m going to star writing a “A Year in Review” post.

TEACHING – Three Months as a Teacher

This time I want to talk about my job.

I can’t believe being a teacher is my actual job this year. I am currently teaching 3 classes at private studio in my town and I’m loving it.

It’s so hard and given my non-existent experience, I was petrified at the beginning. And even now, after 3 months, I’m no completely accustomed to it.

It takes so much time!! I don’t know what’s the best way to teach a particular topic or to help children learn it with the easiest method!

I have surely made mistakes but my boss has reassured me multiple times about it. Everybody messes up at the beginning. There is a saying in italian that says: “Nessuno nasce imparato” that roughly translates into: “Nobody is born already knowing everything”.

After my four hours of teaching I am devastated. I put so much effort into it and it drained me. For the first months, I used to get really bad headaches. I was so tense and nervous!

I’ve been tutoring people for two years, but that’s a completely different experience. I usually speak in italian and we mainly do homework, grammar and exercises. Yes, this is the wonderful italian school system. Facts, facts, facts and information, information, information.

Anyway, with these 3 classes and these young children, the approach is completely different. I speak english all the time and I have a text-book. But the most striking difference is the number of students! Six isn’t that big of a number, but it kind of is when you are used to being face-to-face with only one person at the time.

My english binder has increased exponentially in the past three months and I have a whole new list of bookmarks dedicated to the english language.

What I’m taking from this experience is that teaching is the way to go. It’s what I had planned for me and I am thrilled that it’s the right path for me.

Open Letter to America

Dear America,

it’s the end of the year. I’ve been following what’s happening to you for the best part of two years and it’s a mess. There are so many things I don’t understand about you, things I take for granted but you don’t and some of them are just stupid.

Italy and America are different. VERY different. You are one of the biggest and most powerful countries in the world and we are not. People say you have the best democratic process, but somehow the person who gets the most votes does not end up becoming the President. (It should have been you, Hillary! I’m still not over it.). The easiness with which you can obtain a gun, or worst an automatic weapon, is baffling to me. And last but not least, health care. Why can’t health care be available to everyone? Most developed country managed to figure out how to do it. Why can you not, America?

But I have so many questions and thoughts I’d like to share with you:

  • PRESIDENT TRUMP:

For once, dear America, we proceeded you. We had our own Donald Trump. But from 1994 to 2014! AH AH! WE DID IT!

Gina Dancing B99.gif

Our own orange buffoon was Silvio Berlusconi. He started as a business man, built a television empire and then went into politics without having ever held a government position. But he won. And he kept winning. He was on TV all the time, he tried to shape italian minds with his own propaganda. And the scandals! By comparison, the hollywood access tape with Billy Bush is a joke. He was accused of having sex with a minor, of hosting dinners with escorts and prostitute and more. You should read some of the testimonies these girls gave. Horrific.

We were stupid enough to elect him and he was only the Prime Minister of a small country like ours. We are not as influential and as important as you, America, but he managed to stuck my country in the same place for 20 years.

And now he’s back. At 81. Trying to make coalitions with a right-wing super racist party.

For you, I had better hope America. I thought you were better than this. Learn from our mistakes and get him out of office as soon as possible.

  • GUN CONTROL

Why are people obsessed with gun? Why? They kill people. They are dangerous. Dear America, can you explain it? Why are people so scared of gun regulation? Tragedies like the one in Las Vegas should not be happening. People aren’t supposed to have the possibility of buying that many dangerous automatic weapons. I really don’t understand any of this. Why do they feel like guns are the solutions to their problems? Why do they feel the necessity to own these lethal weapons?

It’s the second amendment of your constitution. Ok. To me it’s stupid, but ok. You have the right to own guns. The problem is: why is it so easy to get access to guns in your country? I have been trying to wrap my mind around all of this, but I can’t.

  • HEALTH CARE

I can (kind of) get past the whole Donald Trump thing, and the gun situation (not really but let’s pretend for a moment), but health care is what leaves me completely baffled.

In Italy (and in many many many counties all over the world), health care is universal and public. Sure, it’s flawed but it’s mostly free.

My granddad has diabetes, a pacemaker and had two surgeries, one to remove a tumor and one to eliminate an obstruction in his neck vein that prevented the blood from reaching his brain. If our health care system wasn’t public, he would have died. But he’s still here, about to celebrate his 88th birthday.

Why can you figure out how to do it, like almost the rest of the world? Bernie Sanders’ plan might be a little bit too idealistic, but he was in the right track!

It’s true, health care is complicated: pre-existing conduction, insurance companies, premiums… every time I hear people talking about it, I get more confused.

But why half the country is against having universal health care is beyond me.

I understand that you, America, are capitalism personified, that you are a merit-based society, but isn’t it time to improve?

You pride yourself on being the best democracy in the world, but to me it’s a load of bullshit.

I love you, America, don’t get me wrong. But the more I get to know you, the more you confused me.

Anyway, I hope I’ll understand you better in the future. You’ll continue to intrigue me and I’ll continue to try to figure you out.

All the best,

Georgia

I based my letter on this wonderful article on contemporarywomen.org . Go read it. It’s amazing.

Am I Scrooge?

This year I haven’t been feeling the whole Christmas vibe. At all.

I’m feeling so unimpressed by all these decorations and trees and holly people. Ew.

gina ew b99

Everything is Christmas related and people have started feeling “christmas-y” since November 1st.

No. No. N.

Also, if I hear one more person saying the word “festive” or “christmas-y”, I’m going to punch them in the face.

I like the days up to Christmas… like, the 22nd, 23rd and 24th… The presents, the hot chocolate, the thick comforter on my bed.

What I truly dislike is the consumerism aspect of it all.

Stop trying to sell me stuff. I appreciate the sales because I’m a student so I’m poor, but calm down, people!

I know I sound like a 90 year-old grumpy old lady but this excess is killing me. It’s all too much and I can’t handle it.

That’s it. Rant over.

Happy Holidays.
