Great British Bake Off 2016 – Week 2

After last week cake theme, this weeks the bakers are going to try to make 3 biscuit theme biscuits.

If you haven’t read my review of last week’s episode, you can find it here.

Just like last week, the contestants will have to face 3 challenges and at the end, one will be crowned STAR BAKER and one will leave the bake-off tent.

Let’s dive into the competition!

Number 1: 24 iced biscuits

Mary and Paul said that the biscuit had to be crisp and identical. And not just 12 perfect biscuits, which in my opinion is also a lot, but 24!

Some contestants used weird flavours and totally absurd shapes and decorations…

Also, there was a bit of a disaster: biscuits were broken and trays were overturned… Let’s just say that this week SHIT happened!

And what could be more british that this?

Number 2: Viennese Whirls

This is Mary Berry’s technical challenge and they are particularly judgmental about it.

And the poor bakers only had 1 hour and a half! Mental! I don’t know what Mary was thinking!!

Inside the Viennese Whirls there had to be a perfect layer of raspberry jam and extremely soft butter cream.

They had to be amazing and had to look like they were made by Mary herself. YEAH. PRETTY EASY!

Number 3: 3D Gingerbread story

This challenge is the showstopper and shit, it was difficult!! The bakers had to make a gingerbread design that represented something important for them. Also, they needed to have at least 8 subjects or objects.

Many bakers built (because it wasn’t just baking anymore, it was actually building stuff!) churches and placed they remembered from their childhood and it was ADORABLE.

Personally I LOVE gingerbread! We always make gingerbread at Christmas! We decorate them with chocolate chips, other edible decoration and we give them away to friends and family to wish them happy holidays.  ❤

I felt so sorry for both Louise and Val because both their creations fell to pieces! But Louise was so nice because even though she was eliminated from the competition, she still had a nice smile on her face.

As I just said, Louise left the tent and Candice (whose lipstick has been the focus of the entire Bake Off and RadioTimes posted an article about it. Find it here) was named STAR BACKER!

So congratulation to her and sorry to Louise!

I saw the preview of next week’s episode and it is going to be tough… I’m so scared! The tension of not finishing in time or burning the cake! TO MUCH FOR ME!

Anyway, I hope you liked this week’s Bake Off and let me know in the comments who you think is going to win!

  1. Now I watched! I made a gingerbread house once. I remember how difficult it was to assemble it (the roof kept on falling). I had to keep my hands there, holding it, until the icing dried. It was quite nice and my daughter loved it. We had a lot of fun!
