Pretty Little Liars season 7 episode 8 “Exes and OMGs” Review

Last Tuesday’s episode was not particularly eventful… except that Nicole might be alive, Paige comes back, Mrs Grundwall came back with a prophecy Professor Trelawney style…

It started with Hannah dreaming that the other liars didn’t shared her certainty that Noel Khan and suddenly a car ran over Caleb. ……….Sure.

PLL s07e08

On the other hand, this Nicole thing is properly bothering me. Ok, Ezra was in love with her, he wrote the flipping book with Aria, he cried because he felt the closure he needed and then what? SHE JUST COMES BACK! We are not 100% sure she is alive, but of course she is! It’s Pretty Little Liars! Literally everything can happen.

Aria also made some mature choices which (let’s face it) surprised me. As soon as Ezra came back she told him the truth about the deleted call and left him some space. And then bought him plane tickets for Columbia, even though this could jeopardize her relationship with him! Still… smart choices. Good girl, Aria.

PLL s07e08The one that wasn’t as clever as Aria, was Hannah. This whole “making-a-pact-with-the-enemy” makes no sense. And… oh, snap! The weird lady from Ravenswood predicted that “something daaaark” (Can you spot the reference? *wink wink*) is going to happen Hannah and Caleb. And surprise surprise, the Lady starts acting all weird as soon as they see Noel Khan.

Could you be more obvious? Nevermind…

Emily was offered a job as a swimming teacher by the Principal of Rosewood High. Is she even qualified to teach? Can she you get hired like that? After meeting the principal at the Coffee shop? My mentality is still too far away from the actual american reality, no matter how much I try to learn about it.

Another big thing: Emily’s ex girlfriend Paige came back! YAY!! (?). I’m still not sure if this is a good thing or not.. We’ll figure it out in the next two episode before the summer finale. At least I hope so.

Last but not least, Spencer dealt with the former OB/GYN (who is now an alcoholic) that delivered and made disappear Mary Drake’s second secret baby. Yes, “second secret baby”. SECOND! Ok, one secret child is plausible , but TWO! Seriously?!? I’m finding this storyline totally ridiculous. Plus, making Spencer and Aria go through his daughter, played by Sprague Grayden (White Collar, The Following) seemed suspicious. She is definitely gonna come back.

PLL s07e08Another thing.. Hannah saying goodbye to Caleb was actually sweet. Right from the first scene in the first “5 years later” episode, you could see that the sparkle was still there. Out of all the relationships, I have to admit that they are my favourites.

Having acknowledged that, can we now just take a moment to say how horrible Caleb and Spencer relationship was? NOT A FAN. So, I’m really glad that Hannah is getting closer to him again! I don’t know what the writers or producers where thinking with that plotline.

Alison came back to school to teach her classes but she was welcomed back by  her students all dressed in black hoodies.Ah. Ah. Ah. Very funny. Also, in true PLL style, she broke into the principal’s office to steal Noel Khan’s file. Just a normal Tuesday for Ali!

PLL s07e08

I almost forgot! There is a weird scene in which Spencer looks at an old family photo-album. My question is: is that a clue telling us about a connection with Mary Drake’s second baby? Or they just needed to fill up 20 seconds in the final sequence? I’ll be wondering until next Tuesday when the next episode comes out.

So, hope you like this post… I’ll give this episode a 7/10. Wasn’t bad, but in PLL standards nothing really happened. I’m looking forward next week’s episode: I have seen the promo and there is A LOT of action going on.

Mr. Robot

“Our democracy has been hacked”

“Fuck Social Media”

With killer tag lines like these, Mr Robot is off to an amazing start.

I came across “Mr Robot”‘s promotional poster a while back. Probably even before it aired.

But on June 201j6ocwm5 I was busy. Incredibly busy. I had my final exams and graduation and nothing mattered more than that.

Although I was overwhelmed with all the studying, I was still keeping an eye on new tv shows (Game of Thrones had just ended and I was longing for something to help me get over Jon Snow’s death).

I loved the poster and remembered Rami Malek from “Night at the Museum” and so I wrote down the name of the series on a sheet of paper. Sometimes I’m so old-fashioned it makes me sick.

And we all know what happened: I lost it. Obviously. 😦

I still popped up on my IMDb page as “recommended” but I didn’t look at it twice.

About six months later, I saw the poster again and decided to give it a go.

Now, a few information on the show for whoever isn’t familiar with it.

“Mr Robot” is a tv series about a computer technician (Elliot) that suffers from social anxiety disorder. He is recruited by an anarchist that goes by the name “Mr Robot” and tries to balance both his job at an online security firm and his passion for hacking.

The hacker group is called “fsociety” and is responsible for attacks on one of the largest multi-national conglomerates that Elliot calls “E Corp”.

Season 2 promo poster – fsociety

The show aired on USA NETWORK from 24th of June to the 2nd of September 2015 for a total of 10 episodes. Season 2 is currently airing! So go check it out if you haven’t already!

I watch a lot of shows from USA NETWORK and I was rather surprised after 10 minutes into the show.

It has a dark atmosphere that Psych, White Collar, Suits, Graceland don’t have. Although those are incredibly well written shows (that will ALL get a new blog post soon), Mr Robot is totally different: there is nudity, sexual practices, reference to addiction to morphine, violence and pornography. So, yeah. There is a lot going on. And just from episode 1, bear in mind.

The cast is incredible, very talented. Lots of new actors. I hadn’t heard of any of them except Malek: Carly Chaikin plays Darlene, a fellow hacker; Christian Slater plays the cryptic Mr. Robot; Portia Doubleday plays Angela, Elliot’s friend; Martin Wallström plays Tyrell Wellick and Stephanie Corneliussen portrays his wife.

The score, composed by Mac Quayle, is a huge component of the show… It strikes the important moments in the show and really builds up the tension.

In this way, whoever is being filmed, is either on the left or on right of our screen. At the beginning, it bothered me a bit. Another observation, there’s a lot of space on top of the screen! It is like it is filmed with the camera too high up! It really messed with my head!

One of the greatest things is the name of the episodes: each one has a different video file name extension like .flv or .mov! I don’t know why, but I find it so cool!! God, I’m so dorky. *uggh*

Leaving all of this “technical” stuff behind, what really matters in anything, at least in my opinion, is the story.

And what caught my attention was how easy it is to hack into people’s lives. It takes only a few minutes on the internet to find out all about us.

We are achieved in a database that people can just look through, like, comment and share.

If you haven’t guess already, yes I hate Facebook. Sorry Zuckemberg, great idea, but… no thanks .

In addition to that, his social anxiety disorder and all of the crazy conspiracy theories are powerful factors in the show’s message.

It is a “fuck you” to society, almost an exhortation to rebel against the rules and restrictions of the cyber world we live in.

Something that I reckon has been overused in movies and television is the voice-over, but here it gives extraordinary insights inside Elliot’s mind and thought process.

To sum it all up, it looks good. IMDb rates it at 8.9 out to ten. Pretty impressive in my opinion.  Having said this, you can never judge a show by its pilot!

I like the concept, actors, location and most of all the setting: New York City

I must warn you: it is not a light-hearted show. If you are expecting the typical USA Network show, I recommend watching the lovely Matt Bomer on White Collar for the (at lease for me)  billionth time. 🙂

Hope you liked this post! Let me know what you think about the show!

Stranger Things season 1 episode 1 review

If literally everybody hadn’t talked about the series, I would have never watched in a million years.

Not because I thought it wasn’t good or anything, but horror series aren’t AT ALL for me. I have tried to watch “American Horror Story” twice and I really can’t. Believe me, I tried.  I really did. 😦

If somehow you are not familiar with this show, you are currently leaving under a rock, 184676 thousands feet under the sea.

“Stranger Things” is a Netflix original series of 8 episodes and IMDb‘s synopsis says: “When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back. ”

It premiered on Netflix on July 15th and since then EVERYBODY has been talking about it.

It is set in a fictional small city called Hawkins on the state of Indiana in the 80s, specifically 1983 and it looks amazing! I LOVE THE 80s!!! The music, the horrid fashion style… 😉

Case in point…

Look at those glasses!!!!

I hate horror movies so *of course* I thought the BEST moment to watch the show was when I was home alone. And at 11 at night… I know, I’m so smart. *uggh*

From the first minute of the episode (which is called “Chapter one: the vanishing of Will Byers”) and I was already scared to death: the flickering lights, the scared and sweaty scientist and the creepy lift…

There a lot of children involved in the show and they are AMAZING! They are so much more talented than many MANY adults actor!

Holly (played by Anniston & Tinsley Price)

And Mike’s little sister Holly was just soooo cute!!! I love her so much!!!!

Just look at her!!!

As you have probably guessed from the title of the episode, Will disappears. The scenes before he literally vanishes in thin air created a dark and terrifying atmosphere. One minute he is holding a loaded shotgun (I found it weird that a child could just get his hands around a gun, but hey, it is set in America… ) and in the next scene he was gone. The only thing that was left: a dim lightbulb hanging from the ceiling.

But as soon as Mike goes missing, a girl in a medical gown turns up near a local diner. She doesn’t speak but seems to understand english and she reminded me so much of the little Observer boy on “Fringe”! (LOVE THAT SHOW!!)

Anyway… the owner of the diner calls social services but… he gets shot in the head by some kind of secret force team of weirdos that are looking for the girl.

Yeah… I don’t even know…

Although he show has that typical realistic unpolished vibe that characterizes shows like True Detective or Breaking Bad, it still has the glam of Mike’s mom’s perfect hair and make-up. I think it’s pretty realistic, but since I haven’t experienced the real 80s I can’t really say anything.

Personally I like it very much. I know that there are some supernatural elements and I am looking toward in seeing how they are going to insert them in the story line.

Something else that surprised me (and I am pretty sure I am going to regret saying this after watching the rest of the episodes), is that it isn’t as horror as I thought it was going to be. I expected more of a “American Horror Story” super freak show. (See what I did there? 🙂 )

Concluding, I like it. I like the story even though it’s a bit of a stereotype (child goes missing in small city where strange things happen? Yeah…) and something massively used in movies and tv shows. It’s captivating, good actors, good music. Definitely something that will make you sit of the edge of your couch, biting your nails in anticipation.

I’m off now. Gonna watch episode 2!

Keep on Netflixing!

Beach Holiday

I love going to the beach. It might just be my favourite thing ever. For the entire course of my life every single year I have being spending three weeks at the seaside.

For me it’s the time of the year when I can truly relax and stop thinking about stuff. It’s the time when I read book that I actually want to read and not the mandatory ones from school or Uni.

I usually don’t take many pictures: it’s the same beach, the same sea every single time. After a while it gets super boring. This year, though, I snapped a few moments: the photos were taken on three separate days: in only one picture, it is sunny, and the others were taken in the last two days before going back home: there had been a storm and the cloud covered up the sky. I thought it would be interesting to see the sea in a different way.

It took me ages to take this picture! I wanted to capture the tiny waves, but they kept overlapping! I was standing with my feet in the freezing cold water, shivering like crazy.

These two are probably my favourite. You can see the water sparking!!! I might seem a little over excited about this, happy by the merely reflection of the sunrays on the water…

Looking back at these is making me wish to go back there and lay under the sun for the entire course of eternity. 🙂

It is such a small town than there is actually nobody there! No crying babies, no one being loud or inappropriate. Everything is so still. For many it may seem extremely boring (and let me tell you, it can be), but for me it’s heaven. It feels like being in a bubble, away from the outside world and everything else.

So… that’s it! Hope you like this post! Leave me a comment and let me know what is your favourite place to be 🙂
